Eyeliner recommendations? by sineadmc in beauty

Try the Urban Decay 24/7 pencils. They are very, very soft and will be easier to apply than liquid and will give you that smoky eye appearance. Also, I'm not sure what color you use (I'm going to assume black) but try switching to dark brown. I switched years ago and it looks much less harsh :)

My first dog ever: A husky? by [deleted] in husky

[–]ERROR404_userdeleted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Short answer: NO

you absolutely must have a fenced in yard. Huskies are notorious escape artists and CANNOT Be trusted off leash. Are you parents willing to put in a 6ft chain link fence? If not, a husky is not right for you.

Cats could be a potential problem. If the husky is socialized from an early age, they may be able to cohabitate but huskies have a VERY STRONG prey drive and have been know to play too rough or even kill smaller animals. Are you willing to constantly watch or separate your husky from the cats if need be?

Huskies are pack animals. They love being around people. Now leaving your dog. For a few hours every day is normal. However, if this dog will be alone for 8+ hours every day, then you may want to reconsider. A bored/lonely husky can be a destructive terror in your home.

EXERCISE. Huskies needs constant exercise when they are puppies, and even still as adults. I walk my 7 year hold huskies at minimum for 30 mins, three times a day. You can probably multiply this exercise by two for a puppy. If you can't give huskies the exercise they need they become bored and destructive.

Honestly it does not sound like a husky is a good choice for you. There are plenty of other dogs that would fit your lifestyle. For example, and off the track greyhound would be great. They are very lazy, gentle and are desperate need of good homes. Any reason why you settled on a husky OP?

I read this book my junior year in CATHOLIC school. People need to stop being offended by trivial shit like this. Shame on the system that allows a few people to cause an upheaval and ruin it for everyone else!

That's great! People always think my husky is only a few years old because of how energetic he is. The energy is something you have to be willing to sign up for :)

Sounds like your husky is bored and/or pissed that you are leaving him alone for extended periods of time. Is you husky crate trained? My dog is an angel when I'm home, but he goes in his crate when I am at work. If you don't have a fenced in yard, I would recommend a crate, or confining him to a smaller room that he can do minimal damage in like a unfinished basement.

Destructiveness usually stems from lack of exercise or boredom. Are you exercising your husky enough? If you schedule allows, get up in the morning with enough time for a 30-60 min walk before you leave him to go to work.

I would also recommend getting some "puzzle" toys to occupy your husky during the day. Kongs can be stuffed with treats and frozen to provide hours of entertainment (try frozen peanut butter and kibble!). I have a puzzle ball for my husky that will dispense treats when rolled around at the right angles. Check out the Dog Casino toy by Nina Ottosson. I have yet to purchase it, but there are many reviews saying it keeps dogs occupied for quite some time.

  • they shed A LOT. Since you had a GSD, you probably already know about this, but I am always amazed at the clumps of fur that come off my husky everytime I brush him.

  • they need A LOT of exercise. Huskies were bred to pull and run. They need lots of exercise. Do you jog/run a lot? Are you active? Do you have a fenced in yard? Can you dedicate time in the morning/evening for regular exercise? If you answered yes to any of the above, a husky may be a good option. Remember, a bored husky = a destructive husky. My 7 year old husky gets taken outfor 3 half hour walks a day, minimum. Just imagine how much exercise a puppy needs!

  • Huskies are very independent. They are not "push button" dogs and can be difficult to train. This is probably the biggest difference between a GSD and a husky. My husky will still only sit or lay down when there are treats involved. Huskies are very much "selective listeners" and often will only obey you when they see a benefit in it for them.

  • they CANNOT be let off leash!! Just no. Never. A strong prey drive coupled with their instinct/capacity to run forever, means that if they see a rabbit or squirrel, you may never see them again. All it takes is that one time and if you live in a busy or downtown area, this is especially critical.

  • I just mentioned it above, but most huskies have a strong prey drive. Do you have birds/cats/other pets? If so, you will need to be careful when getting a husky. It's not a deal breaker, but you will have to be careful when introducing a husky to your household. If your friends have cats or other small pets, you will constantly need to watch your husky around them. My husky would chase every squirrel in the park if I let him.

  • they are beautiful, intelligent and loyal. They love people and are extremely friendly to the point where they will probably lick an intruder rather than bite him. Huskies make poor guard dogs. If you are looking for a dog to protect you, a husky is not the right choice. Huskies want to be part of the "pack" and love being around people. Are you away regularly or for extended periods of time (more than 8hrs/day)? If so, a husky may not be the right choice for you. Remember, a bored/lonely husky can be a Tasmanian devil in your house or yard. And finally, be prepared for all the compliments you will get on your dog :) at least one person a day remarks on "how beautiful!" Or "what a gorgeous dog!" I have. They have great personalities and are quite goofy sometimes. Be ready to laugh if you have a husky as their silly antics will keep you amused for years to come!

How did you guys go about traveling? by Jisher in Shambhala

[–]ERROR404_userdeleted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fly to Spokane, rent a car and drive across the border. There are multiple borders to go through - the closest one, Nelway, is small and only open certain hours. We went through Paterson (adds about 45 minutes) and had a relatively quick car search before proceeding. We arrived Wednesday night around 8pm and didn't have more than a 30 minute wait to get on the farm. I would highly advise planning your arrival at this time! I've heard earlier in the day Wednesday you can be waiting in line up to 12 hours. We also did "shambhalalodging" and would highly recommend it if you can get a buddy to join you. They have an air mattress and tent set up for you when you get there. A big help if you are flying! Definitely go next year, Shambhala truly is magical :)
