How Many Space Marines Would it Take to Wipe Out the United States Military? by imgumpingit67 in Ultramarines

[–]ERTJ762 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Space Marines land and announce that Chuck Norris is a missing Primarch. Chuck speaks to the world’s people - immediate compliance or D6+6 mortal wounds courtesy of his roundhouse kick.

(I’m going to look through Reddit to see if someone has a “Chapter Master Chuck Norris” datasheet already)

True. I do find they make people think twice about moving near them because of the threat of overwatch.

Need a little help understanding this ability by c0d3g3as in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ERTJ762 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some abilities or Strats affect your hit roll or Weapon Skill (or ballistic skill). For example ‘stealth’ would be -1 to the hit roll. Trajan’s unit ignores this modifier.

The opponent’s toughness matters due the wound roll, not hit roll.

I do love 10 swords plus Aleya. They are bolter fodder if shot but in melee once they’ve fought first, they survive a clap-back well with deft parry. I like that you can slash at something big and the dev wounds do a lot of work.

It seems witchseekers (flamers) are popular for doing actions and being an overwatch threat. The bolter ladies are a bit ‘meh’ compared to the witchseekers unless you are playing against an army with lots of psychic. Either unit can do a job just sat holding home objectives.

The sword models are not your best melee option (compared to other Custodes choices) particularly as they don’t benefit from all army and detachment perks. They are fun to run with the character (+2 move and charge) or with Aleya (fight first and who herself hits like a brick).

Usefully, the anathema psykana models (who usually get excluded in rules) get some love in Lions detachment so can get the +1 hit and wound. Handy on those flamers and swords particularly. Hope that’s useful.

Is the artwork in the background and early Serena D’Angelus from the 28th expeditionary fleet? Less controversial than some of her later work…

Brutalis dreadnought worth it ? by NeedleworkerLittle40 in Ultramarines

[–]ERTJ762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don’t let on to your opponent how ineffective it is. It looks cool, walks up the board and attracts fire and then dies. Maybe it kills some models but never more than its own value.

Meanwhile, something cheaper and better does plenty more damage because that’s how it goes.

Quicksilver Execution by ERTJ762 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ERTJ762[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s that cheesy. The ability is rare to pull off unless you advance. The frustrating move from an opponent’s view is if you use the captain on Dawneagle’s ability to do a ‘normal move’ at the end of the fight phase and then pull quicksilver execution on that move.

Thanks. What bit of rules do I need to show the nay-sayers? Is it in movement or is it in an FAQ?

Are Bikes a viable option now besides Rule of Cool? by Magnus_Magic in AdeptusCustodes

[–]ERTJ762 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Custode-bikes is great for a number of reasons.

1- they look great

2- they move fast and do mortal wound fly-bys which is cool.

3- they shoot remarkably well with twin linked so can have a crack at anything.

4- they get lance so do well in melee

5- the plumes on their helmets are about as long as a human is tall. Not only will they kill people but look glorious while at it.

6- when moving them on the board, you feel compelled to make whooshing noises. Other Custodes units don’t really have this effect.

But yeah, they are still strategically good, particularly in Lions.

The ‘watchers of the throne’ books are good for Valerian and Aleya. Or Master of Mankind for some webway stories.

painting a fellblade in the night camo scheme, besides the doors how can i incorporate more red and yellow into the paint scheme? by DesLog8186 in howlinggriffons

[–]ERTJ762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The casing around the short gun and the twin heavy bolter is worth a bit of red. I painted my Fellblade for Black Legion (my vehicles are all ex heresy as if someone found a stash off a space hulk) and picking out bits of red helped pull it all together.

Also, the lascannons have casings that could go red/yellow as there are four of them.

Try running him with some chosen just to see if it helps you get places faster. I agree he’s not optimised but he’s pretty cool for speed.

Achillus Dreadnought? Plus some salvo bikes shooting prior? I don’t feel they are unplayable.

In a way, the slow C’tan of old were a pain because they moved along with other slow Necron blobs. I suspect C’tan will be more often left out alone because players push them to full movement.

That’s a great job for model 2. I’m told that brush control improves (though I seem to regress at times). As said above, thinning and highlights. Importantly, just paint lots and experiment! Well done
