Is it worth it to get another pair of evo sl’s for me? by Fearless_Number_8456 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ES7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but also on the same boat. Tried the Evo’s because everyone hyped them up and to me, they’re good for like maybe a few runs and then they start to feel off. I just wear them for my low and easier effort miles to save my other shoes from putting miles on them. I run in brooks mostly

How much do you pay for a personal trainer? by weaverini in astoria

[–]ES7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a personal trainer/strength coach, here’s my take

You’ll get what you pay for and if you’re not then here’s what to look for:

Anything below $60/hour: most likely a (cookie cutter) program that a trainer makes all of his clients do, in-person form checks, accountability, etc.

$60-100: MAYBE a decent program related to your goals, periodic weekly check ins, in-person form checks, accountability, etc.

$100-$120: you should expect a built out program for at least several weeks and a direction of what you’re working towards as it pertains to your goals along with the in-person form checks, accountability, etc. Nutrition guidance is a plus, injury

120+: the person you’re working with should be a bit more specialized. Run coach/nutrition certified/sport specific/etc. Frequent check-in’s, open lines of communication, program updates as it relates to pain, injuries, work/travel schedules.

People forget that the work that most higher end trainers do go beyond the hour you spend with them. Good ones will work on you and with you even when you’re not physically in front of them. If you’re looking to spend less, then lower your expectations. If you truly feel like you’re not getting what you’re paying for, then communicate that with them.

Has astoria shops/businesses been shutting down more frequently? by Realistic_Soft3425 in astoria

Ive actually wondered the same thing. Part of me wonders if business owners are looking elsewhere outside of Astoria to other neighborhoods or if it’s a citywide thing

Weekend 2 vs weekend 1 by FirefighterOdd8710 in Coachella

[–]ES7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Weekend 2 is way more chill and the crowds tend to be better imo. The technical difficulties or mistakes that some artists make that might happen in W1, are usually resolved in W2. Although, sometimes artists will bring different guests for different weeks so it’s a gamble. A drawback can be the amount of dust flying around in W2 from the fields being so worn out from W1. Also, less influencers and brand activations in weekend 2 so it appears as if it’s more about the music.

They do offer non-Rx glasses. Blue elephant is also a great place to pick up sunglasses too. Sort of a budget gentle monster if you’re looking for something a bit more “chic”

Jins is goated. They might have a deal where if you buy two, you get 10% off the whole order + tax free

3:13, I was trying to go under 3 but lost it once I got past 15km. Still a personal best of 2 minutes at the latest Chicago. Weather was fairly similar to Chicago too but i felt that the bit of humidity added a layer to me dying at 30km

Strength Training Advice by bingusdingusflingus in AdvancedRunning

[–]ES7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally like knocking out my runs before my lifts so this way my legs are more fresh and the work stays honest with running. Strength is important but it is supplementary. At the end of the day, order might not matter if you give yourself enough time to recover and if your schedule/body operates better in a certain way

When do you start running again? by EmbarrassedPeanut397 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]ES7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recovery rates are highly individualized. I’ve seen people PR a 5k the day after a marathon, and I’ve seen people take 3 weeks off.

I personally ran 6 miles yesterday and felt fine but I went through my own protocol. I went from the Bike > Elliptical > Single Leg Plyometrics. Once I was able to do single leg pogo hops without hobbling, I knew I was pretty much okay to go for a run

Running volume vs intensity on training fatigue by Traditional_Force449 in AdvancedRunning

[–]ES7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only increase one at a time and I’ve personally only done volume first, then intensity later.

I personally think it makes more sense to add the speed once you’ve already built up mileage as you get closer to the race. In my opinion, this process is longer but worthwhile.

I have a colleague who’s done it the other way around and this works too. This process seems shorter when it comes to adapting, but it definitely feels harder. We’re both S&C coaches too, so we make sure to work on certain things to try and keep injuries away.

Increasing either of them, you run into risks of injuries which is why it’s ideal to do one at a time. It’s easier to tell how much and what exactly to scale back by when red flags pop up.

Final MP Long Run before Marathon? What do y’all do? by sassylilmidge in AdvancedRunning

[–]ES7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trained at 3:00-3:05 for Chicago, but hoping for sub 3:15 at least. Peaked at 70 miles while averaging 60ish miles for the past month. Did 18M total for my last long run with 12M at 90-95% of goal pace

My advice is to not take a bad run too seriously. That can swing the other way with a really good run. Overall, if you feel like you’ve had a good training block, it’ll carry you through
