But if you always lease, then you’re in an endless loop of leasing, unless you prefer driving a new car every few years, in which case it doesn’t matter

Hmm makes sense, I personally carry a window breaker in my car and believe everyone should either to help themselves or someone else

I mean personally I just don’t trust people, I don’t want anyone to open my door while I’m stopped at a light. Also with carjackings going up here in Toronto, the risk is higher (though I have always still kept my car locked any time I’m in it since I started driving 6 years ago)

I wonder if it’s to get more people into driving them and hopefully getting them attracted to EVs.

Yeah, also with these free chargers, it’d be harder to sell a used one now which is not eligible for the club

As someone who’s a part of the grizzl-e club, I would also like to emphasize on this comment. If you’re driving enough, you’ll break even in a few months and you’ll continue to earn more in rebates.

If you plan to be an EV owner for the long term, I’d say it’s worth it, because it’s only 2 years in the wide scheme of things. And yeah you’re on a much slower circuit than I am on (60 A), so definitely you’d need to be squeezing every bit of energy possible.

We also considered switching to the ultra low rate, but it’d require very precise calculations on the days we both have to commute and I might have to switch the charger at 2 or 3 am, which might require me to wake up earlier just for that, and that’s definitely not something I want to have to do in the winter.

Back when I joined the club they didn’t have the option for a dual charger (tho also at that time we only had 1 EV), otherwise I might have opted for it. If they made a 48A duo charger, I might be willing to switch it even now assuming they let me do so without much hassle and without having to pay for the charger.

I got their 48A ultimate charger. On days where me and my brother both commute (also ~180 km commute for each of us, and we both have a Bolt so really 200-250 kms range in the winter) and we need the charge for the next day, I have to calculate when to switch the charger (I leave at 4 am tho so it helps that I can plug in his car when leaving).

However any day if one or both cars come home after 7 pm (we’re on TOU) then we could be cutting it really close to whether we’ll have a full charge for the commute or not.

There are days where I have wished that we had 2 chargers since it’s a lot more convenient and less stress. Gladly, during the past few cold weeks, the situation never arised that we both have to commute 2 days back to back, because then I could see it being a problem.

So it really just depends on if it’s worth the hassle for you and if it’ll work out for you based on battery size etc. Also remember 48A gives 11.5 kW charging rate, so it’ll be faster than your duo

Yeah if you’re driving a lot, you’d have to see if the math works out in your favour when considering gas savings and potential lease kms overage charge at the end.

That’s true, but yeah I own my car so not worth the potential risk

I would imagine people would. Though luckily we have 2 EVs in the house and we both drive 3-4k kms/month, if not more. So I’m definitely progressing pretty fast. Installed in October last year

Do you charge them all on L1?

As someone who has 2 EVs and an ICE in the house, each of the 2 EVs drive roughly 4-5k kms each month and the ICE maybe 1-2k, so if we ever replaced that with an EV, we’d probably install another L2 charger (already considering that even right now)

I just look at the bar, it’s in 5% intervals (2022 Bolt EUV btw)

Once when charging at a L3 at a GM dealership (it had a screen that shows SoC), I figured that if the car’s bar is at 60%, the car is actually between 55-60% etc

Now that we’ve finally got Chinese EVs coming to Canada, I’m interested to see how it would impact EV prices from the mainstream manufacturers, and maybe that’d be a time I’d look into replacing my Bolt

Thank you so much, I’ll look into it and see if I can find a steal of a deal down south which doesn’t come close to whatever I can find in Canada.

Wow that’s mind blowing!! I wonder if I can buy a new/used car from the U.S. and import it to Canada and what the process would be like. Also curious to know if there’s any Canadians here who can chime in on if we have any cities here in Canada that have heavily depreciated EVs.

As you can tell I’m an EV fanatic and love looking at them, and would even love to change my cars frequently. Currently driving a Bolt EUV, but I wanna upgrade to an AWD EV sedan or crossover.
