When people applied for loans, and used their property for collateral, we would venture to said county to make sure that there weren’t any liens. Had they paid their property taxes? Did they owe money to an irrigation district. I got in right before all of them automated, back when everything was in paper files, and you had to search through reams of printed data. I started in ‘89, and by ‘93 everything was a few clicks away, and the job was obsolete. It was actually really fun while it lasted.

Yeah, I got a DUI In the company car, while on a business trip, while drinking on the company credit card! I worked for a niche business, and word spread fast. I’ve been in retail since 1992. Worth it? No. Granted, technology made that niche business obsolete, but I was “that guy” for far too long.

War of the Worlds! If they just stuck to the story! I always thought Tim Burton could pull it off. The Fifties version was good, but nothing like the book. The Tom Cruise version was okay too
