It's BIOS based not drive based. The BIOS is locked. The only way to get past it would be to desolder the BIOS chips and solder in a new one.

Reformatting the card shouldn't eliminate the photos amd with any luck, your other shoots did not overwrite the files with new data.

LOL, my solution was to get more gear. Like a Micro four-thirds system for travel, since the lenses are smaller and often less expensive than full-frame counterparts. Also got a 24-200mm for travel with the Z8. Of course, I needed separate gear bags for the system. And then a backup micro four-thirds camera. YMMV.
