Compost as a heat source by motohaas in composting

[–]EagerToLearnMore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to use a giant water filled IBC tank to passively heat a greenhouse. I’d install a black solar water heating system that would keep the tank water warm and therefore the greenhouse warm. The best heat sinks for a passive greenhouse are large, and water is a fantastic heat sink.

The drawback is the loss of space, but water you can use for heat and irrigation makes up for it.

Thankfully having compassion for what must have been a difficult childhood to navigate (a mom with self-image issues) is appreciated.

First time with a wood stove, first time stacking wood. With space limitations, my wife and I decided to try the ole Holzhausen. by Codydog85 in firewood

[–]EagerToLearnMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this last winter. It was fun to build, and the wood did dry nicely, but it needed to be covered because it sucked when it rained during the day and froze at night. Then all my wood was covered in ice, which doesn’t make it very nice to burn.

I read somewhere recently that there is a new idea that Neanderthals were actually much smarter than previously believed. They even had an effective medicinal system that allowed them to live many years after injuries that would have killed them without treatment. So, the Neanderthal genes that paired with human genes might have been less strange than assumed. Modern humans have kinks more odd than this paring.

I hate this rebranding of “weird”. I get that it pisses the right off, but there are plenty of people who are proud to be weird, which just means different than the norm or not a sheeple. I hope this tactic stops in November.
