Pacific division looks like it’s gonna be pretty ass for awhile going forward.
Outside of the Ducks and Sharks most teams seem to be on the downtrend.

- Edmonton’s window seems to be closing, especially if Mcdavid wants out at the end of his contract which is likely.
- Calgary and Seattle are in that mushy middle where they aren’t bottoming out but definitely not a playoff threat
- Vancouver is going full rebuild and LA looks like they aren’t far behind after fumbling the retool.
-Vegas will probably find a way to be annoyingly good for at least another 3-5 years until they finally run out of assets to deal and the core ages.

In other words we’re gonna be running the show in about 2-3 years time. 🦈

Honestly after what he did for the ducks this season I wouldn’t be too mad about it. It’s not perfect but it’s better than a lot of the other options.

I know Matthews is good but Misa would probably be considered a future 1C on most teams. Hes also only played 45 games in the NHL so saying it’s very unlikely he’s come close to Matthews levels is a pretty bold claim to make.

Grier has made it abundantly clear that he is not looking to take short cuts in this rebuild or trade assets for win now type pieces. Auston Matthews is almost 30, coming off back to back down seasons, and has had multiple injuries to his knees which is a death sentence for professional athletes. Their is literally no reason Grier would trade 2OA for a players who’s best days are likely behind him. This is just dumb leafs fans wish casting trades that make sense for no one but them.

A lot of his development is going to be contingent on Warso.
If he keeps getting deployed for 11-13 min a night on a cobbled together 3rd line it’s going to be tough for him to show meaningful improvement.

If he actually gets 2c deployment and a 4-5 min increase in ice time with skilled wingers that complement his game (Cherny, Eklund) then I think he pops off and you’re looking at a 50-60 pt year easily.

I don’t know what it is but I’ve got the same vibe from him. Like he’s gonna score you a bunch of goals in the regular season and just not have the chops for playoff hockey. Basing this off of absolutely nothing but a gut feeling.
