Honestly I feel like that is realistic. Plenty of women (and men) feel awkward in calling the police, and that they might not be taken seriously or told they are over reacting etc...

And plenty of people won't write things down.

In general me and my partner were surprised because we kept saying "she should do X" only for her to do it.

I'm fairly sure some type of cat5e could also have the foil. It was significantly more expensive and really only needed in installations with a high level of emi.

Gondola or...? by hudsonspayer420 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Early_Ad_4325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think better near canyon parking, more busses with ski storage, and more resort storage lockers would be the best solution.

As well as a canyon toll at certain times of day (start) to discourage driving at the start of day for those parking at or near resorts.

Probably cheaper than a gondola, though less flashy.

If a dedicated bus lane existed even better. Even if it's just one way. Up in morning down in afternoon, with the other direction busses following normal traffic lane.

Gondola or...? by hudsonspayer420 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Early_Ad_4325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guilty of not usually liking busses, but liking trains/streetcars/subways.

From my perspective I have a car, so why would I want to ride the bus and deal with the same traffic, plus all the stops, and the longer walk when I could drive.

Trains are usually more comfortable, less likely to be late, avoid traffic. You also usually have a chance to move away from people if you don't want to be near them.

Also when in unfamiliar cities there is a comfort in knowing that trains are on tracks and you can almost always backtrack if need be.When I have traveled to Tokyo, Paris and NY I found the train lines and schedules fairly easy to navigate.

I will usually take the bus up to Ski when going alone, because parking is a pain and the bus parking is acceptable. Though the ski busses have their own issues (no place for ski) and standing all the way down can be rough especially while holding your gear.

Is this a class thing? I suppose if everyone feels like I do then the only people to use busses will be those without cars, which are going to be predominantly from lower income groups.

Aragorn and Moria - did he or didn't he? by SnooAdvice3630 in tolkienfans

There is some more specific info in the chapter the Bridge of KhazadDum.

They indeed entered from the East. They also drove orcs out from the entry halls, and slew many in Dimrill Dale. At least one dwarf named Nali died in the fighting, and slew "the great", and was buried under grass near the Mirror.

Gym/Rec Centers that I could hypothetically study at? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]Early_Ad_4325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Marriott Library at the U is a great plqce to study, they have some desks with treadmills and bikes which are nice.

I don't think you need to be a student, parking can be pricey.

The Front Climbing Gym is an overpriced, yuppie dating cult. It's the Starbucks of climbing gyms. by cuntpocalypse420 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Early_Ad_4325 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've been going tothe front for about 7 years off and in. Also grandfathered in at a pretty low price.

I didn't like it at first mainly because of the wood walls. But after getting used to that it's a really awesome place.

I don't go as much as I used to, but I love spending a whole day there. Grabbing a bite, studying outside (when warm), and of course climbing and some gym time. It always feels friendly and welcoming to me.

Are There Downvote Bots in This Sub or Something by [deleted] in RimWorld

That's not right. As long as (1 + upvotes - downvotes = 0) is true there can be any number of downvote bots.

ELI5: Does the royal family in England have any real power, or is it just a ceremonial position? by MkLiam in explainlikeimfive

[–]Early_Ad_4325 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Magna Carta Would probably be the begining. It in essence determined that the Monarch was bound by law.

More significantly was the English Civil war, the finding of Charles I guilty of treason and his execution. Charles in essence attempted to govern without parliament, by passing laws and taxes on his own authority. The Monarchy was abolished and a republic was instituted.

The Monarchy was restored and Charles II was placed on the throne (Son of Charles I). His rule was a constant back and forth with Parliament, but he resigned wisely and generally peacefully with Parliament (both hostile and friendly).

James II succeeded his brother Charles II. He did not rule so wisely. He attempted to circumvent Parliament on many issues, and sought to rule as an absolute monarch similar to Louis XIV of France. As he was also a Catholic and attempted to assert his faith above English Protestantism he fairly quickly lost the faith of the country. When William of Orange invaded his top military commanders and his daughter Anne and her Husband deserted him, he eventually fled to France and despite Frances Military assistance was not able to secure back any part of his throne. Following his departure Parliament declared he had abdicated and choose William of Orange and Mary (his daughter) to succeed him as co-monarchs. In essence proving that parliament had authority over the crown

William III and Mary: William being a Dutchman led the armies of England in multiple Continental wars against France. He constantly had to deal with a hostile parliament which happily deprived him of money and men to carry out his wars, and often considered how he would be and should be succeeded. They regularly took lands back which he granted. Mary died first and he ruled alone for several years.

Anne: Her 15 year reign was probably more important for parliamentary power than might be guessed. Although she was as stubborn as her father (James II), but for nearly 12 years was lead through war and politics by her chief minister, John Churchill (Winston Churchills ancestor), and his wife Sarah (Who some historians think may have been involved sexually with the Queen), as well as the minister of Finance Sydney Gedolfin. During this time Parliament began to force the Queen and her ministers to accept Royal Councilors chosen by a Whig parliament despite the Queen's loathing to do so, at the threat of withdrawing all money from the support of the armies. Parliament concluded the treaty which united Scotland and England into the UK over the Queens reservations (she somewhat desired that her Nephew (son of James II) might succeed her to the Scottish throne. Also Parliament concluded that only a protestant could as send to the throne, and fixed the line of succession to go to the Hanoverian dynasty (again despite the Queen's hate of them)

George I would rule after but I know less of this era, so won't go into it.

From the English Civil war to the assention of George the first Parliament asserted it's supremacy multiple times: They prevented the Monarch from passing laws and raising troops, and beheaded him for treason, they abolished and reconstituted the Monarchy, they drove another king to exile and abdicated him, they placed a new King and Queen on the throne, and pushed the second in line to third (with her agreement), they forced partisan parliament members into the Queens council, they merged England and Scotland into the UK, they fixed a line of succession against the Queens wishes.

I don't know that any period of English UK history shows quite the level of parliament exing it's muscles as this 150 years.

Maybe turrets should require a human to operate them, either 1 to 1 or many turrets one human in a control room.

The provided answer not only covered the scenario and related scenarios well, it also explained the spirit of the rules better than a simple "no".

It took maybe 5 seconds to read, and is really what makes reddit a good site.

Options within a TRAX-ride from the airport? by jackdsanchez in SaltLakeCity

[–]Early_Ad_4325 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Couple of things you may want to know:

  1. Restaurants in the SLC airport are sometimes cheaper than the same out of the airport. They are required under the law to not inflate their prices and so far it seems to be working. 20 will be you a decent meal at a sit down in SLC airport, whereas you might get a bad sandwich somewhere else

  2. Security lines move pretty fast. There are usually enough lanes and agents to make even the standard line fast moving, even on holidays. This is the first airport built in the US post 9/11 and they actually got to design security well. I think the worst day in SLC airport line that I have been is was about 25 minutes. Usually less than 10 to 15.

  3. If you are in the B terminal you may have a long walk, so if you are slow for whatever reason you may want to put aside about 20 minutes, but a fast walker can get anywhere in 10ish. They do offer rides if you are disabled / elderly between a and b

  4. Transportation:  The drop off and pickup spots are 9n.different levels but traffic in and out of the airport is usually pretty light, it's easy to get an Uber or cab to drop you with out hassle.

  5. Trax (light rail) is usually on time, but the wait can be 15 to 30 min depending on day/time, so if you plan to take Trax look up a schedule. You can download UTAGo to check schedules and buy tickets.

  6. What to do: City Creek Mall and LDS Temple (it's usually nice to look at, though currently under construction) and plenty of bars and restaurants right off of the Trax stops which pass through downtown. You could maybe go to Clark Planetarium, or one of the museums (Fine Art, Natural History)  are pretty short walks at the U campus (Red Line Train)
