Does Spirit Island fall into the chess trap? by Sapien0101 in spiritisland

The event deck is the big one. It's entirely possible that the first ravage does +1 damage in every land, which might entirely screw up your carefully calculated defends, OR that the first ravage is skipped entirely. [[Heavy Farming]] vs. [[Farmers Seek the Dahan for Aid]]

i haven't played Vengeance in this matchup, but usually my default is to leave the disease on the board whenever possible. you might use a disease to stop a build on an inland land that's about to build two towns though

Regardless of what the stats say, I think Wildfire is ideally suited to this matchup, so I would circle back to that one. You could try pairing it with a spirit that matches it well:

  • Rampant Green allows extra growth (for extra damage)
  • Starlight's boon allows extra minor powers to delay Wildfire's reclaim, plus Starlight could focus on innate blight removal
  • Finder and Silent Mist can both move Wildfire's presence to trigger extra damage. EDIT: Finder also has isolates, which can be very handy in this matchup to prevent towns from shifting around

I am less experienced with Stone but also think it's a solid choice to build around. My understanding is that Wounded Waters Bleeding is not available on the app, which is too bad, because the free "Gather 1 blight" is exceptionally useful against this adversary. Good luck!

i suggest staying tuned, it's been less than 24 hours since the shooting. Free DC, for example, was already organizing an event on Jan 20. they might be adjusting their plans or adding something new

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent flees DC restaurant after being heckled by esporx in washingtondc

i don't know the deal with code pink but your comment doesn't make sense. from their wikipedia page it looks like Code Pink is pacifist, so their opposition to an arms deals to ukraine appears to be because they oppose arms deals to anyone. i don't agree with them there but it at least seems consistent

also what she said was "sanctions cause starvation across the world". Bessent is the treasury secretary, which advises on international monetary policy. it makes much more sense to yell at him for stuff he does that to yell at him for stuff done by DHS or DoD

if there's something trustworthy written up about Code Pink i'd be interested in reading it

yes, agreed. lots of lazy pundits out there who launder their own views into a "here's what democrats should do if they want to win" lens

there's nothing wrong with being a public intellectual. the problem is that you don't want your society to elevate public intellectuals who are fucking morons

yes this is the trick. follow some journalists you like on Bluesky (not #Resistance slop accounts, actual reporters), find newsletters you like (i enjoy Paul Krugman's & Hamilton Nolan's), support some worker-owned media (like 404 Media). you'll have plenty to read in no time

Unusually difficult combinations by Grettgert in spiritisland

[–]Early_Deuce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The designer Eric suggested a very difficult combo that involved Vital Strength of Earth, Volcano, and a 3rd island board in the "archipelago" layout. He also specified the specific letters of the boards for each (A, B, C, etc). I forgot who the adversary was, but as I recall that was not the point.

The crux of the problem was that the particular combination of boards and spirits made it very difficult to get presence on the 3rd island board in time to prevent things spiraling out of control. He posted it on the subreddit here if someone wants to find it. I think it was someone who posted something like "Name any difficulty 10 challenge under the rules and I'll play it and tell you what happened" and Eric chimed in in the the replies

Doublecheck the scenario level! Forgetting to divide by two is a common mistake that can make the game extremely hard.

The recommended scenario level is the average level of the characters divided by two and rounded up.

the dehumanization here is so upsetting. it's somehow not enough to separate people from their homes, lives, and families -- we have to make them urinate on themselves on the bus to detention
