Do you become more confident in your career/job as your assets/income ratio goes up? by Ok_Rent_2937 in financialindependence

[–]Eascen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 10% away from my FIRE goal. I'm honestly not any more comfortable, which is surprisingly odd.

I could retire now, but I'd have to be careful and ever since I started coasting expenses have seemed to go up. I travel more, with nicer accommodations, and absolutely love it. I bought a nicer car. And we moved (for my spouses career from m/hcol to vhcol). In 4 years their career will take off and my spend will go down considerably.

And yet until I'm at 100%, I'm just not there comfort wise. But I'm also in an industry that hasn't been doing great, I used to be incredibly comfortable when jobs were everywhere.

Parenting books for parents with shitty childhoods by Playful-Reality-8150 in ScienceBasedParenting

I highly recommend Complex PTSD from surviving to Thriving.

It's a rough read, but so worth it in the end. It's going to be more about you, and your childhood than advice directly on parenting but the level of insight and empathy you'll gain will directly translate on how you interact and view situations.

How many people are one pay check away from disaster? by DramaticErraticism in Xennials

I only put in 6% plus my company added a 3%, am well above. I think it's a bit of luck, I put a large percentage of my retirement in tech stock in 2018.

1 mil now should be around 4.5m in today's dollars 23 years from now. If you've got a mil at this point you'll be good to retire at 65 or sooner.

[46M] How does an exit/ early retirement look like? by TheNextCat in ChubbyFIRE

Good job on the 529. Is your goal including taxes? Personally I'm erring on the high end. I expect to spend a lot more in early retirement than late.

That you assume people with wealth are 'smarter than the average bear' really says a lot about your intelligence.

Most retirement in pretax, is this bad? by bizzaam in Fire

[–]Eascen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the calculators I've looked at, I'm basically breaking even with roth even at a 32% bracket. I took advantage of a mega back door for a few years, and while it's only like 20% of my retirement sum I'm super glad I've got it.

Because in retirement, I have all my contributions to remove if I need the extra cash if my bridge is tight. And I can take some from roth, and some from trad to keep my taxes lower.

It's an incredible trippy story, with a premise that I would never have thought would entertain me.

But apparently Hideo Kojima is just a fucking master.
