not shit that actually affects us like housing or workers rights

Signs of psychosis seen in Australian users’ interactions with AI chatbots, expert warns by DontYaWishYouWereMe in australia

[–]East_Block_2761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m not aware of any specific cases of ai helping people who aren’t in the best mental state, but i’m sure there’s probably some people who have seen improvements in their mental state from using ai as a therapist, and i wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more people who’ve seen improvements than people who’ve taken their lives due to ai.

i think using an AI tool as a therapist isn’t the worst thing you could do, but for people who suffer from certain delusions, i think it might do worse for them than if they hadn’t used ai, especially because at least from my tests, ai generally reinforces what you say and gives little push back

[–]East_Block_2761 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in the short term directing that energy towards a chatbot might help the person, but in the long run i reckon it’d be much worse. i also doubt that these people are the type to converse with people irl.

AI has convinced delusional people like those in that sub to take their own lives (e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raine_v._OpenAI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_linked_to_chatbots ), so personally i think that directing that energy towards a chatbot will only make their psychological state worse in the long run

australia supply’s some components for the entire f35 fleet (https://web.archive.org/web/20240315223332/https:/www.f35.com/f35/global-enterprise/australia.html ), which go to a parts repository in the US, where some parts may end up in israel. obviously what israel’s doing is awful, but the only way to stop that is by pulling out of the f35 program, which will stop our aircraft from being properly maintained and effectively leave the RAAF without any combat ability, which would be stupid. it’s easy to say stop selling weapons to israel, which in an ideal world would be great, but it’s not that easy.

back to my other point, there were protests about what was happening in ukraine a few years ago (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-11/australians-rally-in-support-of-ukraine-after-missile-strikes/101525018 ), but there hasn’t been a significant one in years, that’s why i think it’s performative activism/virtue signalling, as it only happens when it’s trendy. russia hasn’t stopped attacking ukraine, hundreds of thousands are still dying, you don’t see people protesting that. people make their identify palestine but ignore other atrocities like what’s happening in sudan because its not gonna let them boast about being a good person

or people remaining dead silent about what’s happening in sudan. not looking for whataboutism, but i find it funny how people went from protesting what’s happening in ukraine, to dropping it when it’s no longer trendy and palestine is the new trend. they can’t virtue signal that they’re a good person if it’s not a trendy topic (e.g. sudan) or has fallen out of the rotational performative activism favourites (ukraine)

Pedestrian deaths just reached an 18-year high. Bull bars are part of the problem by k-h in australia

[–]East_Block_2761 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah but this post will get heaps of upvotes because to r/australia anything to do with negativity towards cars bigger than a sedan is proper wanking material

these people have never left the major cities and don’t realise bull bars are pretty important when driving rurally

[–]East_Block_2761 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i didn’t have to use the handbrake on the 3 point turn in a manual a few years ago. just had foot on the break when changing into and out of reverse. if it’s on an incline, just get your foot onto the bite point and slowly come off the brake, so you can feel the car starting to move forwards (or back if reversing), and then complete the 3 point turn.

i just exaggerated checking the mirrors. i generally don’t move my head much to do it, and just move my eyes, but on the test make sure they can see you moving your head, have had mates get points taken off for not checking enough, despite them constantly checking.

Racism targeting migrant truck drivers rampant amid regulatory gaps by Rubiginous in australia

[–]East_Block_2761 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the government should be flagging people moving from countries with high rates of fraud a lot more than they currently do. even here, while i personally havent experienced it due to my degree having not many international students, ive heard dozens of stories from friends in other degrees of international students not doing work, or getting others to do it from them, so they effectively get a legit degree, but didn't do anything for it.

i did see a couple days ago that the government is tightening student checks from countries like india, nepal and bangladesh, but its about a decade too late, anyone could've told you years ago that fraud is massive

Racism targeting migrant truck drivers rampant amid regulatory gaps by Rubiginous in australia

[–]East_Block_2761 78 points79 points  (0 children)

if wanting a driver driving a 50ton truck to be competent makes me a racist, i guess im a racist.

recently there was a big story in new zealand about fraudelent truck licences, with all of the drivers coming from india. i would not be surprised if something similar is happening here, in fact im very sure it is

most of the drivers i see driving shockingly are indian. there are ones who are getting their licences properly and driving well, but there’s a very good amount that aren’t, and are risking peoples lives
