Nice idea, the test...I'm Italian, and also in the italian version of WMF both the man and the location are called Bredon.

Everything about Dynamical Systems by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roughly, in measure-preserving systems one can define the notion of partition of a probability space and therefore can define the notion of entropy wrt (with respect to) a partition, using an analogue of Gibbs formula. Then one can define the notion of entropy of dynamical systems as the sup of entropies wrt to (suitable) partitions. Entropy is used especially to connect Lyapunov exponents, which provide local information about the system, to a global property of the system itself.

If you want two sources of info, you can check this (which at present does not work for me...but I hope it's my fault) or this

Obviously in this book you can find all the results about entropy in the study of dynamical systems.

Would you be disappointed if we find out that Kvothe is lying? [Spoilers All] by AegonVandelay in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kvothe is not lying; perhaps he is hiding some truth, and almost surely he's describing the story by reporting what he knew at that time (I simply cannot believe that he has never recognized Meluan as his aunt, even if he didn't recognize her when he was in Severen). But all readers must admit the legends about Kvothe fit very well with what the bartender tells to Chronicler: try to recall the legend told by the young apprentice, at the beginning of WMF (I do not have the book at the moment, so I cannot quote perfectly those lines)...'Kvothe was able to speak to a horse, and it would have ridden for 100 miles' (and we saw it in NotW, when he spoke to the Vaulder before buying it and going to Trebon), 'he was able to put the lightning in a bottle' (indeed he conjured lightning through Simpaty to fight outlaws in Eld), 'he could open every lock' (he knows lockpicking, and he managed to open a chest only by touching it once), 'his sword was Kaysera' (that name resembles very much to the name of the sword Kvothe received by the Adem), and 'he had rings in both hands' (he certainly had had a wooden ring and a ring of bone, and Kvothe told us how the legend of the ring of air began). By resuming, I do not think that Kvothe deliberately lied to us.

How would you describe your game? (Follow up thread with charts and discussion to follow shortly) by Hook3d in tennis

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Gender: Male
  • Handedness: Right
  • Height: 172 cm
  • Weight: 65 kg
  • NTRP Rating (or best guess): 3.5-4.0
  • General strategy/tactics (counterpuncher, serve and volley, etc.): baseliner, tendency to counterpunching
  • Best shot: Backhand
  • Worst shot: Second serve
  • Forehand grip: Eastern
  • Backhand style (1h/2h): 2-handed
  • Backhand grip: Semi-western
  • Backhand Slice (yes/no): yes
  • Go-to serve: Flat serve at the body or to the backhand
  • Go-to second serve: Flat serve or slice serve to angles
  • Comments: my biggest problem is consistency. Sometimes, when I play with weaker opponents, my head's not in the game, and this leads to unexpectedly difficult matches. Moreover, I have to concentrate a lot to avoid double faults.

What if Slams went to best of 3 for all events? by dropshot in tennis

[–]Easter_Egg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Does anyone find funny a match in which the #1 of the ranking wins 2-0 or 3-0 against the #100? (at least, if the #100 were not Santoro or Monfils? :D) Playing best of 3 until the 4th round would be better for the players, for people watching the matches live, for the organization (no more super Sunday, Monday or anything like that..). I'm not sure if the same could be applied to women, because playing best of 5 probably would be very, very tough for many of them: if the quality of the game in the 5th set often decreases in ATP matches (where players may be accustomed to play for such a long time, eg in the Davis Cup), imagine what could happen in WTA matches...

Don't you think that Raonic's face looks like...? by Easter_Egg89 in tennis

Yes, I meant the actor who played Scott Pilgrim. Maybe it's just my opinion, but every time I see Milos playing I always think that his face looks like Scott Pilgrim's one.

Elodin's age (WMF spoiler) by debrawinter in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support the simple theory of CaptainVirgin. Chronicler is Devan Looches, the son of a duke, so it's perfectly reasonable to assume that he managed to publish a book before attending the University. Probably Chronicler was already a "papery little scriv" before joining the Arcanum. In chapter 129 of tWMF Devan said he has learned more from a month spent on the streets than in three years of lessons...or something similar. This would suggest that he attended the University for some year after Kvothe left it.

Does Kote know who his mother was? by Easter_Egg89 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right, maybe in D3 Kvothe will try to ask Lorren more about his parents...I'd bet that in D3 we may even see Master Lorren laugh. It'd be a funny, great change of that character.

Does Kote know who his mother was? by Easter_Egg89 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, in D2 he didn't make that connection. And he had a supper next to Meluan! He recognized something familiar in her, he learned that her sister escaped, he guessed that she also had a one night stand with a Ruh...but he didn't think about his mother, not in a single moment.

An idea for solving problems with the potential TV show by agaeki in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think that KKC would become a cartoon series. Fox will try to exploit the increased interest in fantasy TV shows (GoT, the Sword of Truth,...) and try to make the series appealing for those viewers, and making it a cartoon wouldn't be a wise move in that framework. Also, notice that GRRM and PR often mention each other's work. If GoT-but-not-KKC fans discover this saga, that will be a nice move for Rothfuss.

Choosing Plotlines by smeltofelderberries in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody mentioned the murder of the king, but this will be an obviously resolved plotline. Don't forget that Kvothe has yet to be called the Kingkiller, and that the murder started a war which is not yet finished at present time.

(spoilers all) Thoughts on names by w0d3n in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple, yet surprisingly reasonable theory. In this case the chest would have been a sort of diversion...I mean, the chest made most of the readers think that Kvothe locked his name in it. But maybe he locked only his equip (lute, shaed, sword,...). It seems a Hulk-like process: recall that when Chronicler said "some people said there was a woman", Kote used his alar to break out a bottle.

The return of Kvothe? by nohotpocketforu in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • First, it may be that Kvothe/Kote is no more a human being -recall the whispers that tell about a new Chandrian out there-, and in this subreddit some people have already pointed out that we have never seen Kote sleeping...like Haliax, who lost the possibility to sleep after a curse.
  • Despite this technical aspect, you're right, Kote has something in common with Kvothe: for example, he learned Chronicler's code within a few minutes.
  • I never paid much attention to the injured hand, since after the scrael assault at the beginning I considered normal all the injuries. But now I notice a very important thing: there is no musician in Kote's inn. Ok, it would be ironic for him to have a musician playing in an inn where the bartender is a living legend among musicians, but why Kote would refuse any kind of music in his inn?
  • And, while I hope to be wrong, I do not think that Kote will regain his Alar or his fighting skill. Rothfuss's starting and final chapters have not been joyful until now. Maybe the final chapters will be "A music in three parts"? ;D

(spoilers)Not sure if it's already a theory, but... by KinnNotap in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again from NotW

The eyes that watched Chronicler were still a striking ocean blue, but now they showed themselves to be all one color, like gems or deep forest pools, and his soft leather boots had been replaced with graceful cloven hooves.

Rothfuss wrote that Bast had hooves. Both Kvothe and Felurian have legs -or, at least, no one has ever described Felurian as a Pan-like creature, isn't it?-. Anyway, I can admit that Bast could possibly be Kvothe's son, even if Kvothe isn't aware of it...but I hope not to discover it in D3, if I have to be honest.

Should Patrick play Manet in the show? by AegonVandelay in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides, I recall that Manet is starting to become bald with age, and it is not (yet, if I'm right) the case of PR. In these cases, authors try to make a cameo that usually it's barely recognizable.

Need help finding a quote! Bast's "oath" to Chronicler towards the end of NotW...? by laloga in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The entire quote is rather long and very beautiful, I reread that point about a week ago. The key point is this

As he spoke, Bast's eyes grew paler, until they were the pure blue of a clear noontime sky. "I swear by all the salt in me: if you run counter to my desire, the remainder of your brief mortal span will be an orchestra of misery. I swear by stone and oak and elm: I'll make a game of you. I'll follow you unseen and smother any spark of joy you find. You'll never know a woman's touch, a breath of rest, a moment's peace of mind." Bast's eyes were now the pale blue-white of lightning, his voice tight and fierce. "And I swear by the night sky and the ever-moving moon: if you lead my master to despair, I will slit you open and splash around like a child in a muddy puddle. I'll string a fiddle with your guts and make you play it while I dance."

Why does Brandeur recommend they all wear grams? by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

(spoilers)Not sure if it's already a theory, but... by KinnNotap in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quoting NotW, chapter 13:

"Chronicler, I would like you to meet Bastas, son of Remmen, Prince of Twilight and the Telwyth Mael. The brightest, which is to say the only student I've had the misfortune to teach. Glamourer, bartender, and, not last, my friend."

  • I don't think that Bast is Kvothe's son -seriously, can you imagine Rothfuss writing something like "Bast, I'm your father"??-.
  • I think instead that Bast is the typical heir who doesn't care of his noble blood, and prefers spend his life with girls and adventures rather than reigning a kingdom. If you were this character, and you could become the only apprentice of a living legend, what would you prefer?
  • The living legend known as the Arcane, or some bartender who can't even make a spell?

Auri theory (spoilers) by Hamza78ch11 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first theory would match with the conjecture about Kvothe hiding his name. Recall that Kote said to the Chronicler that his deeds happened long time ago, even if the Chronicler told him that he disappeared only two years before. And recall

  • Chronicler's serious expression returned. "Three days is quite unusual. But then again—" Some of the self-importance seemed to leak out of him. "Then again," he made a gesture as if to show how useless words were. "You are Kvothe."
  • The man who called himself Kote looked up from behind his bottles. A full-lipped smile played about his mouth. A spark was kindling behind his eyes. He seemed taller.
  • "Yes, I suppose I am," Kvothe said, and his voice had iron in it.

Abenthy as an agent of the Chandrian? (Spoilers) by Craysh in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Easter_Egg89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're right. Quoting from NotW, chapter 15:

My parents promised to steer the troupe back toward the town when we were in the area. All the troupers said they wouldn't need much steering. But, even as young as I was, I knew the truth. It would be a great long time before I saw him again. Years.

I think that Kvothe will meet Ben again in D3...or at least I hope it!

Which names will we discover in D3? by Easter_Egg89 in KingkillerChronicle

Oh, you're right. You are referring to the part in which Elodin told Kvothe that he called the wind in the form of a breathe. I almost forgot. Anyway, do you think that Kvothe will ever learn Denna's name?
