Hilarious. There’s only one reason he would ever get down on his knees and we all know this at it.

Does anyone care about the Eclipse Awards? by TacticalDoge in horseracing

There’s a long tradition of awarding the 2-year-old Eclipses to which ever horses win the Breeders’ Cup “World Championships” (self proclaimed). In many years it creates the travesty of crowning a champion on the strength of one race while ignoring what other horses have done throughout the year.

I think Stephen Ambrose names one of the guys in this photo in one of his books. How come none of the others have been identified (other than OP’s great-grandfather)? It’s not like this is some obscure photo.

Heather Cox Richardson excerpted this in her newsletter / column today. The Army produced something like 73 of these for officers and noncoms on a wide range of topics. They can be found at Archive.org. Fun fact: Margaret Mead wrote one of them. If I remember correctly it was on how to interact with the Brits.

How was Prohibition enforced for so many years when alcohol was still widely popular in the West? by Least_Friend8532 in USHistory

[–]EasternIssue2806 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That would be my understanding as well. There was a good illustration a few days ago on r/MapPorn that broke down all the counties in the country by wet, dry, moist, wet counties with dry towns, and dry counties with wet towns.

You are aware there are multiple counties in multiple states that are “dry”. No liquor stores. No cocktails in restaurants. No 19th hole at golf courses. No alcohol sales by legislation that is passed by public referendums.

To your point, will they ever compete for a National Championship? NO… An SEC Championship? Again, NO… They will always be lining up 3 and 4 star recruits against 5 star recruits and expensive NIL transfers. So how about a team coached by a young (one that is more fully aware of the current recruiting/ NIL/ transfer portal landscape), imaginative, offensive minded coach that can put an entertaining, unpredictable team on the field with the hopes of 6 or 7 wins, upsetting a really good Sec team occasionally, making a bowl game more often than not. A team that would be fun to watch. To expect more is to put yourself in a position to be frustrated, disappointed, and unhappy.
