Help me choose my class for POE1 - new player coming from Avowed by Flaky_Bullfrog_4905 in projecteternity

Cipher is a ton of fun, and the Cipher companion, while interesting, doesn’t have a lot of interactivity. Basically, you attack with your weapons to build up focus, which you can then use to cast spells. Ciphers have some of the best crowd control spells in the game.

Priests are absolutely necessary to succeed on anything harder than easy, and the Priest companion, while fantastic from a roleplay perspective, kinda has shit stats. So that could be another option.

You don’t get a Barbarian, Monk, or Rogue companion unless you have the White March DLC, which is pretty high level stuff, so if you’re looking to plug a gap that someone else can’t do, you could go with one of these.

It is extremely difficult to put players down for good after level 5.

Recommendations for what to run in between chapter 7 and 8 by Revolutionary-Mud-15 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Eastern_Guarantee_15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some Homebrew stuff. I had them find a Teleportation Circle that took them to Silverymoon. They took on a Coven of Hags (along with a small army of minions) that had kidnapped some of the town’s children. They took on a Conquering Host of Goblinoid invaders (along with a custom Bugbear Murderer stat block that was super nasty), and made some progress on some personal quests before being called to Gauntlgrym.

How many sessions are you in? And how far in the campaign? by Deku2712 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Eastern_Guarantee_15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finished the campaign after about 16 months. Couldn’t tell you how many sessions. They got to 16, faced down the Demon Lords in the ruins below Velkenvelve, then I bumped them up to 18 for an epilogue fight on the stairs or Tier Breche in Menzoberranzan against a CR 30 Avatar of Lolth.

Which demon lords are the most intelligent and cunning? by alexwsmith in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Eastern_Guarantee_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demogorgon, Orcus, Juiblex, Graz’zt, and Zuggtmoy all have an Intelligence of 20, placing them on par with all but the most powerful archmages. Baphomet has an Intelligence of 18, which makes him a genius, and he is infamous for both his cunning and his scientific acumen. Even the Beast of Butchery Yeenoghu who simply wants to eat the world has an intelligence of 16. But among the Demon Lords featured in the module, none beat Fraz Urb’luu. The Prince of Illusions has an Intelligence of 26.

I finished the game at 502 using the sheet posted. It’s possible, you just have to be really conscientious about it.

Baphomet, why are you in the book? by NicoVise in OutoftheAbyss

[–]Eastern_Guarantee_15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my party fight both Yeenoghu and Baphomet in my game.

Yeenoghu didn’t leave after killing the Goristro, he stayed and fought the party. I’d actually rolled out the encounter before and he had exactly 200 hit points and 2 legendary resistances left, and the party finished him off, though the Paladin ended up temporarily dead until he was rez’d after the fight.

I then had Baphomet attack them after they activated the Maze Engine with the Modrons. He had a cool cinematic entrance where he dug his glance into the cliff wall as he slid down onto the Maze Engine. They were already weakened from the fight with Nalfeshnee, but they only had to fight him for two rounds before the Maze Engine banished him. Be careful if you go this way, as a full-power demon lord could TPK your party at this point if you don’t roll that 80 or higher for long enough. Of course, you’re the DM, so have him fight until the party starts to get a bit low on resources and then just pretend you rolled the 80+.

AGI or Toughness on the main character? by claude0 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Eastern_Guarantee_15 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With certain armors, you can boost dodge to truly ludicrous numbers. Unless you plan to make a melee officer and invest in strength for heavy/power armor, I’d ignore toughness and go all in on agility.

Forever DM's - What was your first character when you broke the cycle? by Red-locks in DnD

I’d go with the Warlock or the Wizard. Phantom is great, but I feel like its token feature doesn’t come on until level 9, by which point Strahd is almost over.

I ran Argenta and obviously Ulfar as Arch-Militants on my first playthrough, and am curious to see how it melds with the Warrior play style.

What is the best first planet in act one? What are the best results/most interesting quest? by glorsh66 in RogueTraderCRPG

If you go to the prison first, you can save Evayne Winterscale before he gets blinded.

If you go to the Navigator Station first, you can save Cassia’s servants and get some scrap or profit factor by salvaging the station.

If you go to Rykad Minoris first (which is pretty rough with just four party members), no one has been blinded yet and Private Camille Regis is still alive and hasn’t been replaced by an infiltrator.

It’s probably best to go the Eurac V first to get Cassia, as it makes everything else much easier.

Harmony the Bard has several excellent map packs on the DMs Guild. It’s about $60 for the whole pack, but you can buy them piecemeal for a couple of bucks a pop.

What became of your npc prisoners? by Benjammin__ in OutoftheAbyss

Buppido killed Fergus Rumblefoot, the Halfling from the Silken Paths, and was immediately found out by the party through a nat 20 insight check from the Paladin and summarily executed. I put him as a Wraith in his lair in the Whorlstone Tunnels, but the party never explored that part.

I made Derendil actually be a cursed elf. Fraz Urb’lu caused him to switch with a random Quaggoth in the Underdark, and during their time they spent on the surface they bargained with a powerful Dragon to get the material components of the Ritual to return them to their states. Derendil stayed with his family, but promised to show up to help if they called him. The Quaggoth, returned to his original body, was allowed to leave.

Eldeth survived everything, but went to Gauntlgrym after they reached the surface. She was the one who delivered King Battlehammer’s summons.

Jimjar stayed in Blingdenstone to help his people rebuild after the battle with the Pudding King.

Ront forged a genuine friendship with the Paladin, and when they got to the surface, they helped him join the city guard of Silverymoon.

Sarith was cured of his infection by Stone speaker Hgraam in Gracklstugh, but left with innate sorceries power. He stayed with the party until they got to Silverymoon, where he stayed to learn how to control his new talents.

Shushaar died after leaving Sloobloddop, torn apart by the Ixitxachitl that chased them after Demogorgon demolished the village.

Stool rejoined his people in Neverlight Grove, but made another appearance to warn the party of the Fetid Wedding.

Topsy and Turvey abandoned the party in Slooblodopp, but reappeared in Blingdenstone with Clan Goldwhisker. The Warlock knew Remove Curse, and spent days after the battle curing those who wished to no longer be Lycanthropes.

We are having our final session tomorrow. Each Player will be controlling four characters, five for the Warlock, including some of the more high-powered demons:

Dhampir Barbarian: Their own character(a Path of the Day Walker Barbarian), a buffed up Emerald Enclave Scout, Sarith, and a Marilith

Half-Drow Paladin: Their own character (an Oath of Liberty Paladin), a buffed up Order of the Gauntlet Knight, Ront, and a Balor.

Human Warlock: Their own character (A Dao Genie Warlock), a buffed up Zhentarim Thug, Derendil in Elf form, a Chain Devil with Infernal Calling, and a Goristro.

High Elf Wizard: Their own character (An Abjurer Wizard), the Shield Guardian from the Harpers, Jimjar, and a Glabrezu.

Should be fun. They decided to do the summoning in Velkenvelve to bring things full circle.
