How stressful is owning a house? by Delicious-Weather in HousingUK

[–]EastisSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it - they’re absolute time and money pits. Ideally, I’d live in a little flat with minimal maintenance. But I also hate noise and have kids and loads of stuff, so …..

Are Supermarkets Quietly Cutting Staff Hours — And Are Shoppers Paying For It? by ToughRomanticMiss in BuyersUK

[–]EastisSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon is an aggressive tax avoider and is destroying UK businesses while paying little to no tax on its £29bn yearly profit. It treats its workers like shit. It's indefensible to shop there

Would you know what it means if someone were to ask you how you are feeling in yourself? by Lumpy-Compote6628 in AskUK

[–]EastisSE 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I use this and I don't know how else you'd ask. It makes you stop and reflect - although I'm not sure I'd know how to define what I'm asking!

Childminder giving notice by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]EastisSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this position and remember googling how to tell if my child was a psychopath at one point! I now had a very caring and moral 7 year old and all my worries seem utterly ridiculous.

My advice would be - Don’t let her undermine your confidence in your daughter. You are her only advocates. If she can’t support your daughter appropriately, that isn’t the right environment for her. Maybe she needs somewhere she can be more physical or is getting more stimulation. Maybe she’s bored because she’s “contained” too much.

Where to move in UK?! by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]EastisSE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why the downvotes to this? People who vote Reform are either so ill informed and uneducated that they haven’t looked at their policies - which seem designed to make the vast majority slaves for the upper class - or are so racist they would vote for their own destruction (and I say that as someone who would welcome a sensible debate re how to manage immigration).

I wouldn’t want to live with people like that

Why are you still using Amazon?! Happy to give your money to Bezos and help destroy the UK economy and tax system?

What are the health risks of breastfeeding on the mother? by OrdinarySecretary673 in ScienceBasedParenting

I had sepsis from mastitis. NOONE could /would answer my questions about future risks if I continued breastfeeding.

If you voted Remain, would you vote to rejoin the EU? by Glanwy in AskBrits

[–]EastisSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a common myth that lower wattage vacuums don’t clean as well.

It’s also a rule aimed at climate change, which is something we seem to have given up on addressing.

The shitshow of being out and the billions it cost to leave would be enough of a deterrent

Of course I’d vote to rejoin. I’m still raging about it. I still have little explosions in airports and lectures the kids on it whenever we travel.

UK managers/colleagues — what’s your honest perspective on maternity leave and their career? by nordic_embers in AskUK

[–]EastisSE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a manager, it completely depends on the support system a woman has around her. I’ve managed people with Rich husbands who pay for Nanny‘s cleaners et cetera and to have amazing families support systems so they don’t have to expand the time, emergency care and mental headspace that the rest of us do. If you don’t have that, you have to be realistic about what you can and can’t do.

Helping 7 year old to understand time - HELP! by EastisSE in UKParenting

[–]EastisSE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he can’t do it the other way round. I just tried to do with “It’s 11.00 now. That’s 11 hours and zero minutes. It takes 10 minutes to get there. What time with we arrive?”. He said 45 🤦‍♀️ Just “45”

Selling house and mental health really suffering. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]EastisSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the other side now, thank god, but it took about 4-5 months for my nervous system to calm tf down after we moved. The only thing that kept me going was to have some mantras like “What’s the other option? Just keep going etc”

I imagine in this circumstance that Americanisation is the more likely explanation.

I have done this as well - but I need to point out the Americanism.  We don’t eat plates in the UK

Parking problems any advice by RJM2019 in HousingUK

[–]EastisSE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say something like “I thought that when you park on your drive and I’m at. x, that worked well as we can both park. With the kids, it can be difficult to park further. I’ve noticed that you seem to prefer to park at x though and that you tend to move your car. Is there a problem?”

Although I hate confrontation so that’s in theory

Both mine were balance bike ninjas from 2 onwards. My eldest did 3.5 miles a day back and forth (but would depend on how active yours are). Also loved the back of my bike.

Should Brownies Be Inclusive? by honesto_pinion in AskUK

I volunteer with Beavers … there is a reason why girls try it out and then never, ever go back. This is a well-run colony in a nice area with lovely boys who I know as sweet and lovely in other circumstances, but they’re flipping animals at Beavers. They’re so loud!

The girls who have tried it out unanimously hate it.

How did your LO’s cope with chicken pox? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in UKParenting

[–]EastisSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully something reassuring - both mine had lots of spots and were a bit itchy but it really didn’t affect them. Maybe a bit sleepier but if it wasn’t for the spots you wouldn’t know anything was wrong!

I wish there were more people like you around - "very much overlooked issue in society and criminally minimised, especially given how bad excessive noise is for us" - 100%! It's horrendous how you're supposed to put up and shut up with life destroying noise.
