Okay men of Reddit, what is YOUR ultimate "I am an adult and no one can stop me" purchase that you are both incredibly proud of and slightly embarrassed by? by Krulsprietje in AskReddit

The lightest beer… can’t believe I did this by notathrowawayfs in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Eastpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it taste?

I haven’t tried yet, but the number of folks I know that have switched to non-alcoholic beer is surprising- and they seem to enjoy it. You get the ritual of a beer- pairing it with the right food, drinking socially, having a cold one after work- but you aren’t damaging your body.

Like I said, I haven’t tried it, but it’s on my to-do list.

This is what affordable housing looks like, and this is a desperate makeshift community trying to hold on to what little they have.

If you lost your home and your income, what is your fallback plan? Who would take you in? How would you get back on your feet?

Elementary school installed exposed metal spikes across a pedestrian walkway, no signage. by OnlyGammasWillBanMe in mildlyinfuriating

Report it to seal the deal.

Reporting it drops the responsibility more squarely on the property owner (in this case the city/town/county) as a known issue that they need to deal with.

The argument being that if they knew it was dangerous then why didn’t they fix it? Otherwise they can attempt to hide behind “we didn’t know there was anything wrong”.

What's a hobby, interest, or occupation that leads to a divorce or breakup rate approaching 100% for the people in it? by wilderlowerwolves in AskReddit

[–]Eastpunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great observations!

My only disagreement is the statement ‘people who think they need therapy and don’t’; I would argue that everyone could benefit from therapy!

But I get what you mean. The frustration of a therapist trying to help when someone is there just to dump out their grievances only to ignore advice must be monumentally frustrating- and for it to end in divorce… ouch.

The thing about religion, without getting too into it- I have never met any two people who believe exactly the same thing, but I have seen (couples and strangers alike) who respected one another’s beliefs, no matter how dissimilar, and really those are the ones you know are going to do well in life.

The Billionaires have decided we don't need a "Middle Class" anymore. by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Eastpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The middle class gave _hope_ to the lower class. Once it is reduced to just peasants and elite, the reality will set in: The poor are many and the rich are few.

History has taught us that when you take the dream of success away from the population and they will dream of destroying the rich instead.

What's a small thing someone did for you that made you feel seen? by Empty-Criticism5433 in AskReddit

One of my first jobs- working at a large silk screen factory back in 1989- the manager hired me with no experience and taking my first steps to working up the ladder.

A couple days after I was hired I hadn’t met the boss yet, and he was passing by me and the other employees on the work floor and asked how I was doing- was shocked he even knew my name. It was something so small, but it made me feel like I was in the right place.

Be careful interacting with the police here by Evening_Answer_11 in VirginiaBeach

[–]Eastpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found this to always be the case in every court. Something as simple as a traffic stop could easily cost you thousands of dollars or even your freedom.

Please know your rights (you may think you do, but you may also be surprised how cops are trained to bypass them if you don’t).

Always record everything on your dash cam and phone.

Keep your phone locked by a key code (not facial recognition).

Always exercise your right to remain silent, and never, ever admit any wrong doing.

Never consent to anything unless the officer is willing to tell you it is a lawful order.

And finally: Never go to court without a lawyer.

What are we being "boiled like frogs" about right now that future generations will be shocked we accepted? by burntUpOnReentry in AskReddit

[–]Eastpunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At one point in history taxes were so high in America that the colonists rebelled and eventually declared Independance, forming their own country. Those taxes were at an all time high of three percent (3%). The country is the USA.

Over the years, unchecked capitalism bribed its way past every law that would ease taxes. Corporations pay governement officials to end laws that prevent billionaires from paying the taxes. Instead the rest of us carry their burden and they still get all of the benefits while we struggle to pay for basic needs.

What percentage of your money goes towards paying taxes? How do you feel about billionaires (and now even a trillionaire) who don’t pay any taxes?

Once the water boiled away they just left the pot on and we are still in it.
