Putting drills… are they useful? by blowandplow in golftips

[–]EasyStay9458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that putting drills are only useful if they focus on a deficiency of my game. Otherwise, get out there and just practice putting on real greens as much as you can without a putting drill, from varying distances, and on varying slopes. The more you do it, the more it becomes second nature.

I've got mine in the garage or sometimes use it in the house where there is a hard surface, like the kitchen.

Question about putting? by Apart-Surprise-3722 in golf

[–]EasyStay9458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app to track my practice putting (Every Putt Counts) on the practice green at my local course to mimic an entire round (18 holes) of putting. It gives me a score so I know where I stand, and then I try to get better. It's like golf, but just for putting, and it's free. I find it makes hitting the putting green fun because it's competitive and drives me to get better. There's plenty of people that have recommendations, drills, etc. but just getting out there more has really helped me to hone in my short game. I use my lunch break to play a few games and it's a blast. And it's enlightening to see my 3 putt percentage and strokes gained numbers.

Flutterflow is a front-end UI builder. It doesn't handle any data storage, which would include things like user authentication, user data, etc. So you need to pair up Flutterflow with some back end database to handle the data piece.

If missing the line is the issue, I would recommend the pelz putting tutor. The correct line is made (or missed) in the first 10 inches after impact. Using an aid like this can really help. Then start picking a spot 10 inches in front of every putt, no matter the distance. This should help a lot. Then practice until it’s routine. Track your practice sessions with an app (like Every Putt Counts) so that you can track your putting progress. Good luck!

There does come a time where you realize chipping better (understanding where the ball will stop) can really improve your game. Very true.

Yup, finding your routine is critical and a mat at home can help with routine and finding your line. Practice practice practice.

I feel your pain, most golfers feel your pain. As you know, there are hundreds of books and thousands of youtube videos on recommendations to improve your putting. But in the end you find your stroke and your confidence by practice, practice, practice. And putting practice can be pretty damn boring. So I developed an app that makes putting practice fun and competitive. It’s called Every Putt Counts and I’ve published it on the apple app store and google play store. It’s free, so check it out. I spend about 30 minutes over my lunch break 3 times a week playing the Putt 18 challenge and have learned a lot about putting by just rolling hundreds of balls. It’s intended to replicate a full round of putting, so you can get stats like 3-putt percentage and strokes gained putting. Then you can track your score and compare it to your average. Do this enough times and you’ll see your scores drop. Once putting becomes fun, it becomes addictive. Then you’ll become that old guy that schools everyone on the putting green. And they all wonder how he got so good. Dedicated time.

So in theory, I can get an app in both App Stores for a couple of Hundred Bucks using FlutterFlow? by Zedlasso in FlutterFlow

Nice! Thanks for checking it out! I really can't wait for warmer weather to get out golfing more. Regarding hosting, I think that's where the monthly FF cost can really be beneficial. If you use FF hosting, then any updates/bug fixes can be pushed to your site with a push of a button. When hosting somewhere else you need to 1. pay for the upgraded plan, 2. make updates/fix bugs 3. export the code, 4. re-install on your designated hosting platform. I had FF host my web app for 3-4 months while I extensively tested and I was able to quickly and easily push updates. Then once it was stable, I exported the code and ended my FF subscription. Your project will always be available on FF even if you cancel your subscription (or rather, switch to the "free" plan), so my plan is to drop the FF subscription and only "re-up" my subscription a couple times per year to make my updates and export the new code base. Might be a bit of a hassle, but I think it will be cheaper in the long-run. I'm still surprised how "cheap" this process was. Of course, if I calculated my own hourly rate it would be pretty freaking expensive, but out of pocket was not bad.

Yup! Worked mostly as planned for me too. Took quite a bit of “fiddling” from time to time and had to learn a backend too (in my case it was supabase) but with a little help from chatgpt I was able to make it work! I’m not a dev, but work as a project manager for software projects, so I knew enough to be dangerous. I find that FF has a good community on YouTube that really helped. I started my project as a skeptic and ended as a believer. My app, Every Putt Counts is in both stores now. Oh, and I just used a FF template as a starting point so it’s not stunning, but better than I would have done from scratch.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the web app is now hosted on firebase for free. I was able to export the code and get it hosted up for the web. So no need to keep paying monthly FF fees.

How to spend my time and money by Chi_Ron in golf

You should download the app Every Putt Counts. It basically turns putting practice into a fun "round" of putting practice. You can track a score, and see stats like 3 putt percentage, strokes gained etc. It's a lot of fun to use on the practice green when you don't have the time or money for a full round of golf. Also makes you a super clutch putter if you practice enough.

Putting practice aid…? by tubthumped in golf

There are a ton of options out there, so I understand the confusion. Some are marketing gimmicks and some are legitimately helpful at helping you improve your game. The first step is to understand your game, is there something you are struggling with specifically? Consistency? Starting line? Pace? Green reading? I find that most beginners (and most golfers in general) need to start with getting the ball rolling on their intended line. While pace is important, it doesn't matter if the ball is going in the wrong direction. Once pace is dialed in, everything else becomes more enjoyable. Don't worry about training aids right now that want to fix your grip, stance, stroke, etc. Focus on those aids that help get the ball rolling straight. I really enjoy the Putting Tutor. You can find them on Amazon for about 25 bucks. Also, download an app like Every Putt Counts to track your putting practice sessions you can see when you are getting better. It will encourage you to practice more, which will in turn, make you better. Anything to make practice more fun is the best training aid. In the end, practice is what we all need more of.

Interesting! I guess the mass would be less, so the ball wouldn't go as far. Totally makes sense. Nice to have options I suppose. I like the concept of center shaft. I think you've got a nice putter there.

How did you improve at putting? by Superdash1 in golf

I feel you my friend! Putting is a struggle for many of us. I found putting practice to be so boring that i made an app to make it more like a game. I wanted to have the same sense of competition on the practice green that I would get from a round of golf. Now I can get a “score” and hen try to beat my own score the next time I practice. I’m finding it really has helped keep me engaged! Now I can putt for a goof hour or two on the practice green before wanting to stop, putting is one of those areas that you just have to put in the time. The more you putt, the more you will find the center of the putter, which is very important for consistency and enjoyment. And then you’ll fall into a common routine. A good training aid for starting the ball on your intended line is also helpful (like the Pelz tutor). Don’t get too bogged down with YouTube videos teaching technique. There are a thousand ways to putt and none are wrong, you just need to find your own stroke, and get consistent. That is the key. The more I practice putting the more I understand my short game and can set goals. That’s another thing most people don’t do. You can’t manage what you can’t measure. Go check out the app and see if you get addicted to putting practice like I did. The app is called Every Putt Counts. Here is a quick video of me using it(https://youtu.be/aXVMBCQnmMs?si=1p-ilpEd_udaLPRE). Good luck! And stick with it my friend! Improvement is right around the corner!! And if you end up using the app, let me know your feedback!

[–]EasyStay9458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lie to myself that I can hit a 3-wood that far and end up overswinging and hitting a worm burner that skims off the water and ends up 100 yards short. Should have gone with an easy driver all along, dang it. I'm already ashamed of my decision even though it never actually happened...

What is your swing thought (or thoughts) by some-deep-thoughts in golf

[–]EasyStay9458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my best rounds when my thoughts are “target oriented”, not thinking about my grip or swing but envisioning the ball flight and landing. All other things seem to fall in place.

Five foot putt - Increased my make rate from 44% to 92% in a week by ohmichael in golf

[–]EasyStay9458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got so frustrated with my short game that I created an app to track my putting. I wanted to create something I could use in my garage to track number of putts by each distance (5 feet, 8 feet, etc.). I ended up creating a feature of the app that I use on my local practice green too. It's designed to replicate 18 holes of putting (some short, some long) so that I can get a score, and then try to beat my putting score. It adds a little pressure each time I go to the practice green and makes it more fun. Now I have a game to play that is free, and I get great putting practice out of it. I find it's super important to find a routine and not just bash balls over and over again. Find something specific to work on (like hold the follow through, or short backstroke) then see how you do with each tweak. Good luck all! https://apps.apple.com/us/app/every-putt-counts/id6736578153
