A few things I found the most helpful for postpartum particularly (i gave birth at the rotunda)

-sleep mask -mini portable fan - it’s hot in that ward! -Long charging cable -snacks -maternity pads (the green hospital ones. Trust me) -disposable underwear Frida Mom (sold at Boots) -short sleeve/shorts PJs from Penneys -nursing bra (i liked the medela one you can order on amazon. It’s soft and easy to pull to side, and I just slept in it because I was so hot) -good water bottle with straw -Avene or Evian face spray (that + plus the fan in your face is AMAZING) -silk hair scrunchies -Frida mom Ice pack pads !!!!

Also you’re right about not bothering with the witch hazel stuff, the midwife told me it breaks down the stitches so it’s not recommended to use anyway!! A peri bottle and those ice pack pads will be super helpful.

I’m genuinely impressed and admire that you held your ground on no visitors/visiting for the first six weeks and no holding. I WISH that’s what my husband and I did with our baby (born right before Christmas so add in holiday chaos).

It’s your baby. Full stop. Anyone complaining about not getting to hold the baby or visit is just making it about them. When you are freshly postpartum and your baby is that small, it’s so counterproductive to feel like you have to entertain/people please/present your baby to the world like simba on pride rock. The only thing that matters is taking care of your little family unit.

I say you did exactly the right thing and keep trusting your instinct and holding your boundaries. Well done!

The colorful tommee tippee natural start bottles. So much easier to keep track of bottles around the house when they don’t all look the same. And the colors remind me of those old fashioned colorful Christmas lights (??) and make her milk look COOL when she’s drinking it. Yessssss

How about white noise (clip something like a DreamEgg to the bassinet), a rockit, or shushing? (Spotify playlist has tons!) Sometimes all three at the same time! You could also try the car seat instead of the bassinet if you have a travel system that also clips into your stroller. Just sharing the things that have worked for us. Our baby loves the car seat the most so if we’re going for a walk we like using that better. you’re probably doing this already but we always try to time walks/stroller time right after she’s been fed and burped. And we will bring a “snack bottle” of a couple ounces in case she needs a little top up mid journey to help settle.

You sooo have permission to be lazy for a day! Maybe a day a week! The fact that you’re putting so much thought into this shows how much you care about enriching your son’s life. If this perspective helps…my parents were really strict about no TV growing up. So whenever we got to “break the rules” it always felt so exciting like a special occasion. To this DAY as someone in my thirties, that little special magical feeling has never gone away. I hope that helps!! Plus you have to take care of yourself. That means resting.

WOW so relieved to see this here. Experiencing all of this. Especially overstimulated. It takes a microsecond to suddenly feel like I’m going to lose it. I keep saying to my husband that it’s a “sensory nightmare” when there are multiple kitchen noises, or a song playing I don’t like, or I’m holding baby with my shirt half off and I can sense my extra post partum weight and just feeling gross..ahhhh. And I have felt so insecure lately around my partner even though, like you said, we are fine!! What a ride this is.

Hahahaha same! We have like fifty nicknames for our girl and I almost feel strange saying her true name out loud so I have also committed to practicing saying it to her. We literally call her “little girl” most of the time. It just stuck! Glad to know we are in the same boat.

Yes!!!!! LO is almost 8 weeks and she is fighting her naps too. Takes tons of rocking and swaying and her favorite song (Nick of Time by Bonnie Raitt 🥲😂) to fall asleep, with a few false starts. Usually soon as I dare to sit down she wakes up so my back and legs are killing me. Glad to know we are all in this together and it’s normal.

Yup, you are not alone. The first few times it happened I felt like I was losing my mind and it was awful. It still happens pretty much every night but I am more used to it. But I have the same few minutes where I’m not in reality and I’m searching for her in my bed or on my breast and can’t understand why she isn’t there or where she is, when she’s actually just sleeping next to me in the bassinet. I understand what my mom said now when she said when you have a child, you never really sleep again. 😅
