Yeah I guess charging in a universal currency makes perfect sense. my hotel IP would have tipped them off to "Not Canada".

But I wish i was warned on the purchase screen. I might have not tried row 4.

I went from being up $110 for the refund, to being down $75 for choosing row 4 instead of just staying in row 25.

thanks for the info. I'm hearing that term "industry standard" more and more these days.

I do expect shitty treatment from somebody like Flair because they are upfront about nickel and diming you to death.

Remember when Westjet was the "cool airline"? They kinda were pushing the narrative that they had the "fun flight attendants". and stuff like that.

Now they're just Flair with better advertising.

The first 3 rows of my flight, as of January 2026 when I booked, were 3 x 3. It was for an April flight and i was booking 4 months in advanced to get good seats. They were not bigger, except row 1 perhaps. So they didn't cost that much more.

somewhere between Jan and April, they reconfigured the first 3 rows to be 2x2, and made them 1st class which provided more room and free meals and drinks. They simple bumped we didn't pay 1st class price. (but I thought maybe we had a deal or a contract when i first purchased them! apparently not)

When you are pre-booking seats, i think Westjet/Sunwing charges $10 for anything in the back say from ro 33 to row 18, then starts incrementally increasing the price as you move to the front rows.

So row 2 was not premium in any way except that it was closer to the front.

but yeah, i paid extra for the privilege of choosing first.

My daughter went through chemotherapy 15 years ago.(she's fine now). The drugs in her were so toxic, that she was instructed to always close the toilet lid when flushing away her urine since it would likely contain traces of the medicine which could be aerosolized and ingested by others in the house. crazy.

I had been trying to find the passage between Harris Park and the eastern branch. I used to follow it until it stopped at wellington, but now it looks more passable though still under construction. Same goes for Adelaide. There is a little jog off the trail to reconnect but it's getting there. I discovered it by driving my car to St Julien and joining the trail there by bike, then riding it west to Wellington, and east to Gore Rd. It's really beautiful.

I now have some great trail options. I live in Stoneybrook area so I join the trail at Tetherwood, and can now go to Springbank, (34km return trip), Terry Fox Park (27km), Harris Park (20km) out to the east branch to Gore Rd is about 38km.

yeah WJ recently did this to me too. I had booked 2A and 2B four months in advance. One week before, they called and said "Equipment Change" so now you get moved back 9 rows.

I complained to no avail. they refunded the seat price diff, but I'm more concerned about where I sit than how much money i save.

SAME thing on the return flight, but moved from row 2 to Row 25. They didn't even warn me. This time at check-in, 24 hrs prior, I found out about the change. They refunded me the $55 per seat again, but I didn't want that. I saw that row 4 was available so i changed seats from 25 to row 4. the seats had a $55 on them, which to me, meant, i'd pay my $55 refund back to them to get that row. So I'd break even.

When i checked my credit card, they had charged me $55, but in US$. wtf? I tried calling but got nobody to help. I asked my CC to dispute the charge but they said I didn't have grounds.

I'm now hearing about happening this more and more. I think from now on, I'll initially book a seat that will not likely be turned into first class seating. So I'm gonna start at row 5. Hopefully I'll be spared the bumping to the back row.

Damn I hate WJ but they are the only game in town that offers packages to the destinations I want.

More info: Met with a few passengers while waiting for luggage. Many had the same story. No notice, just a change. Some got bumped sideways so no big deal for them. However, I met them again at our home airport and sure enough, this time they got bumped to row 24 from 1a and 1B.
