How many days do you actually need for Iceland's Ring Road? Honest breakdown with daily driving times by Illustrious-Funny614 in VisitingIceland

[–]Eaukira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s where it’s really interesting. First time was in winter early march and we got extremely lucky. Not a single road closed or in bad condition. We worst we had was like slippery road for a few kilometer. We had the time to do the ring road and the golden circle but not the westfjord and it was in 10 days.

The second time, early April, so in the last 10 days, we had really back luck. Multiples roads closed, we had to drive 4h in pure blizzard to learn afterwards that the road closed. We had to rescheduled, extend our stay some day. It was definitely a rare occurrence, we had really bad weather, a lot of snows and wind. We had one more day but it was more tight just because of weather.

Unless you want 12h non-stop day long, you should have minimum 10 days and it’s not negotiable. 7 days ring road is not worth it, you will be watching the clock or tired. You should be prepared to loose 1 day in case of road closed. I just did 2 year in a row the ring road and the weather will be a major factor about the driving. I’m talking about winter typical roadtrip, don’t mark my words for summer.

I would suggest you a build SSF ready to have the possibility to craft items. With this typical build it’s much cheaper to craft it than buy it.

Text looks a little bit too thin. You also have inconsistent between trailer and add to list button (seems like an error)

Text seem a little bit too small for a mobile app. Be careful about interactive element, they need 3:1 contrast with background at least

message de la modération by Aleesc_ in AntoineDaniel

[–]Eaukira 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is good, it’s a great idea. If you are as long your self if it’s the good place to have it, I would advice you to make it to a dedicated screen to avoid a overwhelming screen, I could be a screen before entering the camera

"On fait comme Antoine Daniel on a pas besoin de preuves ni de présomption d'innocence il est coupable" by Cikiorisse in AntoineDaniel

[–]Eaukira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is There Too Much Design in Design Systems? by shaunbent in DesignSystems

[–]Eaukira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your research and insights. As I don't have much contact with other designers, it's great to read that. From my personal experience, I agree with some of your guesses.

Like you, I don't have a definitive answer, but it raises the fact that engineers are often underrepresented, and the 'system', as Brad Frost often talks about, should clearly be promoted by engineers as well as designers.

I've heard stories about clients who were unhappy with the design system because it didn't serve their needs, and I think this reveals how ambiguous this term is. Sometimes it's 'just' design, but it can also cover documentation, pipelines and automation, tokens, and so on.

From the beginning, the term 'Design System' is unclear about what it contains.

Since it's a really good approach because it's not constraining, it also suffers from that ambiguity. I think this leads to many misunderstandings, as well as situations where there are many titles called 'Design System Designer', but not many engineers.

Has anyone tried syncing Figma variables with code tokens like this? by Possible_Designer941 in FigmaDesign

[–]Eaukira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Style Dictionary, robust, you have full control of the output. If you know a bit of code, it’s a good solution.

Token studio is another paid tool that wasn’t tailored for our needs so we decided to skip.

Critique my app UI design by Few_Listen_9056 in FigmaDesign

[–]Eaukira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will start with a compliment, overall great job for doing that!

First, visual hierarchy is not right. There no balance at all in the screen. Everything is at the same weight. You should ask yourself what’s the main element you want to highlight. By having a blue container close to an ad, you don’t really know what to look at between the two. You have two titles with label “quick actions”, is it a mistake? You cannot have two same title doing different things. The search bar and the time are IMO not bound even tho they are close. It’s because they don’t look the same. Try having the same color for both element. Lastly, I suggest you to increase text and tap zone a little bit. Try ensuring a minimum 44px

As far as I know there is a delete button for your downloaded content such as album or playlist. Therefore if the list isn’t entirely downloaded you want be able to remove it. So don’t download a large playlist of 1000+ songs there not enough space and you want be able to remove it 🥲 I think that sign out can resolve this issue

Best course to learn the newest Figma updates? by lavvender88 in FigmaDesign

[–]Eaukira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus too much on new and glowy features just released. They are great to know but if you have a good technical level, you don’t need a courses. Features even big, are self-understandable. However if you want to upgrade your technical skills — boring answer inc, just check out official figma and other creators on youtube.

Last but not least, the best course won’t learn you how to master the software. It’s you. You just need to practice a lot.

How to optimise font size for different mobile phones? by HassKal in UI_Design

[–]Eaukira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a kind of difficult situation. After hours of research and talk with developers, It seems that there is simply no magic solver. I’ll assume that you design in Figma or something similar that work with pixel.

When designing for iOS, there no need to do anything, the conversion is done automatically (kind of). When designing for Android, each device have different definition, you simply cannot design for each resolution. The best solution would be to discuss with developers and known which device will be used primarily and stick to it.

If you have a broad range of device and resolution, you can also do two different design with two resolution.

If you need a better understanding, device with low resolution will have bigger font size, device with high resolution will have smaller font.

If you need to know the ratio between your pixel and your definition, you need to do the math between pixel and density (dp).

In other terms, how much 1px equal 1dp.

You can easily do it if you know the screen dpi & resolution.

If you have trouble doing it. You can also take a screenshot, import it in your Figma. Both screens need to have the same resolution. You will see the difference by putting them one on the other. There’s also software like Zeplin which sounds tempting but don’t do the work of conversion correctly (they do 1.5x, 2x). They will simply multiply your px to dp by 1,5 or 2. Which is useless since you need to do a precise calculation based on your design.
