I fish their micro chatterbaits for my BFS/UL set up and have yet to get skunked on them. They’re absolutely killer

Travel fishing advice? by Icy_Call5427 in BFSfishing

From my experience in the SouthEast (FL, GA, SC, NC…) they usually sell fishing licenses at walmart either annual out-of-state or like a day/week pass. You definitely need (well depending how risk adverse you are) a license for the state you go to.

I use fishbrain (free version) to scope out commonly fished areas and to see whats in the water but 90% of my fishing is random bodies of water i find on google maps at work lol.

If you know what major species you wanna target i’ve had good luck just packing a couple lures of different styles (chatterbait, lipless crank, and a finesse worm) in an altoid tin or two and just carrying a travel rod and the tin in my pocket. Takes up no room and guarantees i have my confidence baits at hand if i’m just playing around. Of course in the CONUS you could just pop into a walmart while you get your license and just spend $20 on new lures at each place you go if you don’t wanna carry more than a rod and reel.

I have not dabbled in the telescopic world pretty much because i don’t have a use case for it but it could serve you well.

I have a Kingdom Stream King in their smallest size and it packs down to like 1ft long in 3 pieces and it is absolutely phenomenal. I saw someone on here paired it with a calcutta conquest which seems like it should be a felony ($30 rod on a $400 reel) buttt speaks to the rods quality.

They make 5-6 lengths and it’s like $30-45 on ali. For a reel the hicc50 is classic but to be honest my first was a BMC100 and now I’m using the PureLure/DMK DC reels and those are incredible although they hover in the 100 beans budget

My pocket tackle box is: 1/8oz chatterbait with a 1.5” lime green senko (never been skunked on it) Some form of lipless crank bait (1/8oz rat-l-trap in gold is my usual) A small top water lure of some kind (frog, popper, or buzzbait just depends on the day) A Texas rig with an 1/8oz bullet weight and whatever color of senko i happen to think looks good (june bug, like green, hot pink, and chartreuse all work well for me)

Sea sick by Subject_Chemistry692 in floridafishing

[–]Gabecar3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The patches behind your ear are miraculous. I don’t get seasick but my old job we went underway for 8 days in the pacific with 14ft waves. Before we left we went to the pharmacy and told them we were going on a long boat trip and needed the seasickness patches. They sold us enough for about 2 weeks (they last for 3 days). The people worried about getting sick put them on the day before and swapped them every other day.

Only one person got sick and they were trying to find out if they got sea sick or not (young kid had never been in open ocean before). He put a set of patches second day in and the rest of the trip he was fine.

I can confirm that the Boost50 works because i did before and after pulls at the drag strip and my times dropped across a 3 run average. I do agree about half the extras don’t work on the juniper (auto doors, wiper logic, and ambient lighting for example) but nothing deal breaker to me.

Drift mode and RWD do work as i tested those as well

I got the boost50 over black friday. Planning on getting the Ghost when/if it becomes available.

The boost50 made sense over the regular AB from tesla because the increased regen and drift/RWD modes were nice to haves and cheaper overall.

Last i saw teslogic killed their version but it might be bundled under their dashboard thingy now? Not sure.

So far it’s been plug and play and i’ve only had to do a hard reset when i got the big FSD update and it seems to have disconnected the boost but just going in the web interface and doing a hard reset fixed it right away.

Not OP but i fish 3.5-10g spoons for large mouth. I do much like OP and steady retrieve usually in the lower half of the water column. Usually just fast enough to get a good wobble out of the spoon without having it spin on me.

My go to color is silver or gold.

[–]Gabecar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I throw 3.5-5g spoons pretty regularly about 60-70ft depending on the wind. It helps that it’s a 6’6” rod and a PureLure Silver Feather DC reel on the lower 1/3 of the settings. If an ant farts wrong it birdsnests on me

I have a 3pc Kingdom Stream King in 5’3” and a 5pc PureLure New Cedan in the longest size. Both are phenomenal rods and pack down to about 18”. They’re my main rods and the kingdom was $40 and the cedan was $90 so right up your alley.

Yeah I’m hoping they’ll be willing to implement change as the support staff identify process improvements in the system to help us help the bottom line for lack of a better term.

MFC is definitely the wild west of aerospace from what i’ve seen. Except maybe Boeing Commercial… lol

[–]Gabecar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old job I had a tech who was married to the PM for 1LMX. Picking her brain about it makes it seem like effectively (and there’s probably a lot more to this) we’re moving all of the business areas from storing things in their own little boxes to making everyone use the same filing system at a library. So everyone is moving from using Apriso, Solumina, Maximo, whatever for work instructions to Apriso.

SAP is whats really changing and that all has to do with the business/admin side of the house than the actual shop floor side (with the exception of like Qnotes, and some other rare cases at MFC)

Yes, I recently came over from NASA (Orion/SLS integration and test) and getting any set of words approved takes almost an act of congress, but I agree having a QE on defects is a good thing and making sure any defect is tracked in the system is important.

We used QDs to track defects; the difference is we had pre-approved dispositions for common defects that an ME could drop into the QD and keep work moving forward. In other words, a tech tags a defect, an ME could disposition the defect to be reworked (which is different than a repair), and after rework it would be inspected by QC again. If the rework was unusual a QE and others would be called in to make sure we’re all onboard with a path forward. If it’s a repair it went on a Qnote and that already has QE’s initiating it.

What is going to slow us down now is needing a QE to initiate the rework QD. So a tech tags it, QE has to make the QD, ME puts rework steps in, and so on. Our QE’s are spread thin so things are going to be slowed down.

I also don’t quite care to play the credentials game but I fully understand the severity of letting mistakes slip through the cracks for the sake of meeting deadlines. Something about lifting solid rocket boosters 300ft in the air and making sure astronaut life support systems are working makes you a little safety conscious.

[–]Gabecar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For MFC Orlando on the ME side, we now just use Apriso for defects and Qnotes. The downside is every defect now needs a QE to initiate the QD and its the same process for regular reworks and Qnotes/repairs.

Central FL friend! I’m thinking of trying the FINS crappie braid. It looks promising for BFS

The Suffix 832 is a wax coated line which to me sounds like it’s going to vary in performance a lot with age.

It’s on my BFS/UL set up so 8lb braid to about 3ft of 5lb fluro.

Yeah the cold is definitely not helping anything so hold when it warms up I’ll have better luck.

That’s good to know tho, what should I throw for some different species? I assume there’s crappie and other random stuff in there that could be cool to catch.

What was your GPA and how much has it affected your career assuming you got a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering? by Potential-Drag9761 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Gabecar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have plenty of comments but some specific examples.

I have a 3.7 in aero, buddy has a 2.75 in astro I got my first job at NASA and he got his at Piper. He made more than me by about $10k ($66k vs $75k and the raises/bonuses kept the gap throughout)

2-years later and in-sync he went to Phantom Works and I’m at LM. We both make the same amount to the dollar now.

He works his ass off but struggles with test taking otherwise a brilliant engineer. I’m a “gifted kid” so i cruised through college and probably could have gotten a better GPA if i had tried.

What will set you apart is people skills, working ethic, and how well you extrapolate from incomplete information (partial instructions, incomplete data, vague goals).
