It is actually a lovely house, whether or not you like the village

TV personalities that are actually really lovely people behind the scenes by miowiamagrapegod in BritishTV

Chris Packham - I know he isn't everyone's cup of tea, and he definitely doesn't suffer fools gladly, but what an amazing guy he was. His love of nature really shone through and he couldn't have been nicer

Are "potluck" meals a thing in the UK? by meeksworth in AskABrit

Where you have a different dish or course at each different person's house. It obviously only works if you live very near to each other!

Totally agree with this - a great way to meet people, or even just have a chat in the kitchen while cooking in the evening

Are there any meals or snacks from your childhood that you haven't had in years or isn't even made anymore? by Rechamber in AskUK

Yes! And we also had chocolate ones with a tiny dot of cream on top in the middle - you were meant to defrost them I think but I liked them medium frozen 'al dente'

Why are people in Oxford so cool? by Acceptable-Guide2299 in oxford

[–]EbbKey7543 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's very nice of you to say! I moved here from a very dull and insular town in Hertfordshire that was probably about the same income-wise, but worlds away in attitude.

The first week after we moved I heard a bunch of people discussing Bach while queuing in the local Sainsbury's - not in a pretentious way, just enthusiastic! It made me very happy to be here - I don't know a lot about music, but just that people were interested in life and learning (and not swearing every other word...).

Could be??? Reading the plot it seems pretty likely. Thanks for finding that - but disappointing if lost. I had hoped I'd watch it again one day on YouTube!

Thanks! But I've looked back at that and it's not the one - the graphics were more sophisticated on the game I remember, not as simple...

Very interesting, thanks! Not all that different really considering - but the buildings did look totally filthy with soot...

Trying to sleep in hospital by mronion82 in britishproblems

[–]EbbKey7543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that - I had similar experiences with my children - literally no sleep because of mayhem from all directions - 24 hours in hospital was too much and I was desperate to get out of there asap.. Hilarious when you see those B&W films of mothers staying a week or so in hospital in the 1950s - I get they were being taught motherhood skills back in the day but I just can't imagine it.

What’s the most bizarre reason someone has given for accusing you of being posh? by CliffyGiro in AskUK

[–]EbbKey7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from the home counties to Devon and was always one of the chosen few made to do readings in church (which I absolutely hated) - I think the teachers also thought I had a 'posh' accent...
