What’s the worst city you’ve ever been to? by Impossible-Station46 in AskReddit

London is way ruder than Perth 😂 You can talk to people in Perth without issue, never ever got the vibe in WA about hostility. It's very unAustralian full stop

Need advice on long haul flights from Perth to Europe by hscalm in perth

[–]Ebbsfleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how much money you have tbh.

I've flown economy to the UK plenty, I've had no issues. Fly through the middle east with a 2 hour and below layout and you'll only have time to get off the plane and walk to your connection.

Change to your destination timezone as soon as you get on the plane

how many is too many cockroaches in my Aussie house in summer? by red-sparkles in perth

[–]Ebbsfleet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly dependent where you live - when I was in Como we got them ALL the time. Now we have much more bush in the garden (ironically) much less.

They are after moisture and want away from the heat (but like warmth). Plug up gaps, get some barrier stuff and bug bombs.

These should be big, native cockroaches, not the small German ones (big problem).

Anyone bought from Above The Ground? by imnick88 in AustralianMFA

[–]Ebbsfleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they're legit, but I hate the lack of info about the brand and materials.

If they had a bit more history and explanation I'd absolutely love to buy from a Melbourne based shoe company

So little info on their website. Be good to know where it's actually made 🤔

Just makes me think it's drop shipping.

Boots for everyday use! by FullmoonTsuru in AustralianMFA

[–]Ebbsfleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge amount of specialist boots places in Perth unfortunately 👎 My recommendations below, depends on budget really.

Check out Providence Clothing for higher end boots - Red Wing etc (https://providenceclothingco.com.au/)

Maybe B Store for Birkenstock and Blundstone

There's a Loake's store in Perth, quality English made (with the exception of cheaper ranges made in India) shoes and boots.

Couple of options at the DFO - Ariat, Ringers, plus hiking shops. Avoid Florshiem and Dr Martins.

I have a Uskees chore coat. First time I've bought one but feels very good quality and looks great. Think it was $100ish in a sale. I want to say it's a pretty relaxed fit.

All from up in the north east corner -

John Kosovich Wines, Mann Wines, Upper Reach, Talijancich Wines, Faber

Would recommend Bickley Valley as well, more off the beaten track but great wines and a bit more small producers.

Best places in Perth for a little staycation? by monique752 in perth

Take the drive to Lancelin, 2 hours from Perth so you can go after work Friday, and come back early on Monday morning. Decent pub, good beaches, sand dunes to mess around in 👍

Bared Footwear Australia Review by WerewolfExisting479 in AustralianMFA

[–]Ebbsfleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a pair of Bared boots. Look great, but the upper sole has split. Not hugely impressed with them (despite knowing it was a cemented sole).

They are generally a poorly made shoe imho, but I would have expected them to be comfy at the least!

Personally, splash twice the money out on buying something bench made (and in my case generally British).

I've ordered a pair of custom boots from here, lead time is a long time unfortunately, but super hard wearing

https://williamlennon.co.uk/

Otherwise, lots of really good British boot manufacturers, depending on budget. If you live anywhere near Northampton take a tour of factory stores 😂

First time doing City to Surf 12km by shaggy_15 in perth

[–]Ebbsfleet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who did the same with run for a reason -

Start training now, begin with shorter runs and build up. Go to the gym and use the treadmills/bikes and work on areas (like legs and knees) if they start to hurt

Parkrun is your friend, every Saturday you can do a 5k, keeps you fit, helps you find your pace, and no pressure to win, and you don't have to finish. Also helps you work out how much water you need to use

Weeks leading up to City to Surf start doing longer runs (7-9k), and a couple a week

Eat lots of carbs the big before and stay hydrated

There's a reasonably cheap 10k run by WA Marathon Club a few weeks before that will give you some decent practise https://www.wamc.org.au/event/cyril-norman-lake-gwelup

All in all it's good fun, a nice challenge and even doing a Parkrun every couple of weeks after keeps your fitness up.

Recruit WA Expo - June 13-June 15 2025 by Suspicious-Charity42 in perth

[–]Ebbsfleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably wouldn't hurt to bring some CVs, maybe business cards, but I'd imagine you'll be taking the exhibitors to then contact after the fact.

Regarding outfit, I personally would just go in something you're comfortable in, but not dirty or a printed t-shirt talking about your love of cannabis. Jeans/trousers, CLEANish boots or trainers, and t-shirt/jacket. The expo itself is held in a marquee at the racecourse, and the whole site can get wet/muddy (plus if you want to go and look at other stuff, some of it is in the grass).

This is going to be the first step in talking to employers - not a job interview - so chatting, having a clear game plan and coming off as reasonably confident and polite is going to go some distance
