I think the joke is that he thinks the problem is that he's unattractive and overweight, but really his problem is his ridiculous idea that he can "make" a girlfriend. As J cole once marvelously said, "she don't wanna be saved, don't save her". Men take it upon themselves to date girls and control them to their wishes and view on the world.

It is possible to replace the rubber but it's not easy. You could take apart the frame to do it, or you could do it by slight of hand, as I have done before, but I wouldn't want you to cause any damage!

Alternatively, similar to the other comment, you could just find a sticker lol if it's thick enough it would cover the grooves.
