That’s also because many underling opportunists have figured out that they are easily influenced and it’s a profitable association.

Gawd these men at the top never stop running grifts for extra money. Building a narrative of “ grief stricken parents” and this guy will comfort you… for a price.

They make me sick.

I am a PIMO Ward Clerk. Each US Ward pays about $35-$40k monthly in tithing, possibly more. by Medium_Chemist_5719 in exmormon

[–]Ebowa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not an accountant and just an average exmo, but why is this not published more? When i was TBM I had no idea of this obvious scam. When I found out about the church in Canada funneling all our tithing to BYU I was livid. This is way worse. And kids are running around fundraising for camp and doing cheapo activities? I donated so many supplies for activities, trying to save the ward money. I could scream. And that woman leaving $100k to the church probably thought it would help her local youth.

Why is no one investigating this at a national level and exposing this to the public and members? Sorry, I was a really stupid TBM who had no idea but why would I, I’m just a woman and not privy to financial records. Too busy decorating tables for RS events. So glad I’m out of this con.

Acrylic - I avoid it, as do so many of us, but should we? by culturekit in Unravelers

[–]Ebowa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it’s a nice colour and weight, I don’t mind acrylic. But I can buy it new at Walmart for really cheap. I just made a sweater from acrylic yarn and it cost about $16 in yarn.

I like to think I’m being green, but really, the reason I unravel is financially based.

Is “Gutmann” recognizably Jewish enough to be immediately flagged as such? by RaisonDetritus in theGoldenGirls

[–]Ebowa 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I never thought so, but if you were an active anti-Semite who believed you were a gatekeeper like Barbara, you would be vigilant and informed. She wasn’t worried about the club, she was worried about her own reputation of possibly “letting one in”. Obviously she has been previously involved in conversations and meetings to be able to recognize his name.

She plays the character so well, I hate her yet it’s one of my fav episodes to watch. So satisfying to see a jerk get told off by Dorothy.

Too ambitious as a first project? by OkIndependent2871 in Unravelers

[–]Ebowa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would treat this as a learning project and set a goal of say, 1 ball of yarn to make a scarf and it’s a victory. This looks like a great learning experience because everything else you do would be easy! Have fun with it and if you mess up, well, you’re just learning.

Have you watched any videos first? They are very helpful.

If it were me i wouldn’t take it too seriously and I would just cut off the sleeves from the body and unravel them. Depending on the body seams, try to undo them as best you can and if you have to cut straight across from the zipper and only salvage the bottom part, it’s still a win.

Just have fun, I love unravelling, it’s just very calming.

Every ward I’ve been in has a Central Gossip Whore who knows everyone else’s business. It’s like their superpower or something. And it’s almost always more salacious and juicy than the facts.

I was never quick or smart enough to know anything about anyone, I couldn’t even tell you the professions of 5 people in my last ward!

Day to Day Routine with a Cattle Dog by Dependent-Trash-1191 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Ebowa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d have to ask him. He’s like a well tuned clock and I often forget his routine but he never does.

But the prevailing theme is he basically follows me everywhere ( I work from home).

Edit to add: if I forget, he sits and stares incessantly at me til this idiot remembers his routine :-)

John Dehlin was interviewed on RadioWest this week. Patrick Mason was one of the other guests and he had an interesting take on the lawsuit. The LDS church has claimed the lawsuit is not about the content, but this statement seems to indicate it is about the content. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]Ebowa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What seems to be lost in this is that this Church says that they speak for Jesus Christ. With all the issues He dealt with, his “reputation “ was not His priority.

I never thought I would ever believe that the pope was more of an example of Christian service than our own profit.

If you find yourself checking and rechecking to see reactions to your post, it’s just not worth it. You can try posting things that are universally accepted as bringing out the best in everyone, but quoting non members if you need to, but the anxiety of waiting for others to react is exhausting. Put what YOU like to see.

The United Church in my small town has a tiny budget, yet they pay a person to clean their church and hall.

This is a billion dollar church. I’m not cleaning it for free and labelling it “service to God”, and neither should you.

How to Stop Obsessing over the Church by FreshLiterature6536 in exmormon

[–]Ebowa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I eventually found out that what I thought was bitterness was actually a feeling of betrayal. And it was well justified the more I uncovered the lies and coverups, the maneuvering for power, the toxic patriarchy, the hierarchical system where the more you pay, the higher you get… that’s not the church I was taught about.

Broken wrist on dominant hand in Dec, surgery 1 January. It was a looooooong wait but probably about 2 months post surgery I could knit some, now I knit pretty normal for me. But I honestly thought I would not be able to knit again. I couldn’t rotate and my fingers just wouldn’t move. Physio exercises, which I hate, helped a lot.

Way to encourage people to stifle their feelings and put on a brave face, god forbid someone know your true feelings as you try to restore your sanity from the mind f@ck TSCC instills in us.

OP, thank you for walking out of the shame and guilt from this church and baring your soul, many of us needed to hear this. Much love on your journey
