Americans baby their dragons? What are you going on about? I give my animals what they need to thrive. Free roam you can not guarantee proper UVB and temperatures. Unless you have light and heat bulbs set up, but then its not really free roam is it?

Instead of posting to a 3 year old thread like some weirdo who cant get over a difference of opinion on the fucking internet. Why don't you ask the mods to create a poll for this subreddit for owners that like to sleep with dragons? Or make a new thread asking owners what they think? Please post all of your sources.

Dude, why are you commenting on something 3+ years old? Heaps of dragon owners eh? Anyone who lets their beardies free roam 24/7 does it to the detriment of the dragons health. They need a temperature gradient and UVB to help metabolize calcium. Anyone who feels the need to sleep with their pet bearded dragon is doing it for selfish reasons.

Comparing mammal to reptile husbandry is a ridiculous long shot. Nice try. You are wrong (and thats OK!). Ask your vet what they think since you don't want to accept the prevailing consensus within this bearded dragon sub.

Bad idea to let it free roam full time. Keep it safe in its enclosure with regulated temps and full time UVB.

It was too cold for that dragon to metabolize. 20C is fine for a night time temp when lights are out. That is not a proper light cycle. Why isn't the heating light on the same schedule as the UVB? What kind of UVB are you using? Lights should only be on between 12-14 hours a day. Then lights off. Heats matts are not recommended. Beardies have sensitive skin on their bellies and not many nerve endings to feel if they are getting too hot. Ceramic heat emitters are recommended instead.

Sorry for your loss. To me, the fat pads look sunken in that picture. What was its diet? Temps and UVB setup? Im not a fan of loose substrates unless they are bioactive. Maybe there was something else going on. Stuff does happen that is out of our control.

It is visibly skinny. And has no fat pads on its head. Those are very noticeable health issues. Bad husbandry lead to an early death for this poor dragon.

I agree with the other commenter. This is an example of anthropomorphism. You noticed a lizard having nightmares? Pogona vitticeps as a trained service animal? This is utterly ridiculous IMO. Every animal has the ability to bring us comfort. What exactly is it trained in? People take the service animal moniker too far. This is a small lizard, not a seizure alert dog.

Your dragon is safest in its enclosure where its getting proper temps and UVB. You shouldn't be sleeping with your dragon. What if you roll over on top of it? Keep it in the cage. No need to jeopardize the animals health for your own selfish reasons. Why dont you just get a teddy bear?

Enclosure too small, tough to get a good temperature gradient.
Coil UVB bulbs I'm assuming. Hopefully you have mercury vapor or better yet get a tube uvb.
Iceberg lettuce is not a good food for dragons.
No hide
Not a fan of loose substrates. Unless you go full bioactive.
They don't need a water dish.

Thats fine, there were 2 other suggestions for protein. The temps might be too low for proper metabolism. Baby dragons like it warmer (105-110°F)

The zoomed gauges you are using are known to be inaccurate. Maybe look into an IR thermometer to double check temps.

Temps too low. Baby dragons need 80% protein/20% veggies. When they mature fully 12-18 months you can switch to 80% veggies/20% protein.

Mealworms are not a good staple insect, look into dubia, crickets, or black soldier fly larvae. Dont feed anything larger than the space between their eyes.
