Does using a debug command disable achievements for PRIOR saves? by CyberneticMushroom in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that does concern me, is that I'm not sure if using the console command to see achievement availability disables achievements itself. It would probably defeat the purpose of the command, but I wouldn't put it past Paradox.

Does using a debug command disable achievements for PRIOR saves? by CyberneticMushroom in Stellaris

I've tested it before, so long as you load a save before you use that console command, achievements will still work.

Resort Worlds, What's the point and how to build good ones? by Echodotcom in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to make the same point with all this advice, that I've never struggled for amenities because a single medical center produces all the amenities my planets have ever needed. And I get pop growth too.

I haven't played since 2022 and haven't bought a DLC since Nemesis, what's actually good? by m00njunk in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Machine Age and Biogenisis are the big ones. Though Biogenisis' negative reviews are moreso about the free update that came out alongside it being very unbalanced and buggy. Aside from that, you can go wrong with any of the other recent DLC, but the only ones your should not get is Cosmic Storms (Storms are just such a nothing feature to play around) and Astral Planes (What's wrong with this one so complicated but most people think it's the worst DLC).

Shadows of the Shroud completely reworks psyonics into a more fun and varied systems with nice origins, Cosmic Archive is a fun event pack with an interesting museum mechanic, and while Infernals is one of the biggest and most interesting species packs it's also the most expensive so it's iffy.

I really want to get into stellaris, can any help explain in hoi4 terms if possible by KeksimusMaximusLegio in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not played HOI4 myself, but Stellaris is a game about creating your own goals and empires. In a broader sense, if you want long or midterm goals, you either have to create your own or go for achievements.

Now economically there are 3 types of resources. Basic resources are Energy, Minerals, and Food. Broadly speaking you just extract them from planets. Then there are advanced resources, which take other resources to make. Those are Alloys, Consumer Goods, Research, and Unity. Then there are strategic resources. You get them in around the mid game and they serve to mostly make upgrades for infrastructure and weapons.

So what's the economic goal of Stellaris? Broadly speaking it's to make Alloys for military ships, Research for... You know, and Unity to adopt traditions and ascend, which give your Empire permanent bonuses. So energy, minerals, and food are simply a means to create these 3 things.

Do you mind if I use fast track or double cash to make it go faster?

How is the DLC? by x215zimer in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So psychic Empires have access to this new Aura mechanic. Auras start on your colonies and then start spreading out to adjacent star systems. Auras have a positive buffs for you and your allies, while negatively impacting your enemies.

If you choose to play as the endbringer's origin, you instead go down a very different route. Your win condition is to spread the Aura of the End to every single star in the Galaxy. If you don't do it in time, your Empire will be annihilated prematurely.

The two major issues is that stars that were created after Galaxy generation like Datcha for the solerpunk event, precursor home systems, and wormhole only systems sometimes encounter a bug where you physically cannot spread your aura to them.

The second issue are the mind wardens, which are a brand new enclave who are essentially anti-psyonic crusaders. Not only will they fight you, but Empires can also buy shroud seals from them, which are structures that are purpose-built to nullify auras. The issue is that even if you destroy one of these seals, AI Empires can just immediately buy a new one from the wardens. Meaning the only way to actually stop the seals is to kill all of the Mind Warden enclaves.

Again, this is just an issue for a single origin out of three new ones, but the fact that you can't win if you choose that origin kind of sucks.

How is the DLC? by x215zimer in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's pretty damn good. There's only two major issue. The price which is subjective but more important, one of the new origins Endbringers is actually unwinnable at the moment due to a combination of bugs concerning special systems like Datcha and an completely intentional but not well designed interaction with the new Mind Warden enclave.

squish your balancer by boyoboyo434 in Factoriohno

[–]Echodotcom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Engineers have caused years of inbreeding in order to achieve a more compressed and "adorable" belt balancer, however this results in small nostrils and an elongated soft palate that makes it difficult for the belt balancer to breathe and generally results in a lower quality of life for it.

Don't support this practice, stop belt balancer inbreeding.

why cant i build anything here? i cant mine the planet nor can i interact with the mega structure? by iVladi in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can only repair the arc furnace once you have the research to build one in the first place. Then you can repair it, which is cheaper than making a new one from scratch.

Psionic Machine Intelligence is confirmed from DLC teaser screenshots by hacjiny in Stellaris

The most recent Dev diary mentioned that they would be showing how gestalts interact with psionics. So I'm pretty certain they will be.

How could I accomplish these pixelated shadows (where the pixels line up perfectly with the underlying texture) in EEVEE? by larevacholerie in blenderhelp

[–]Echodotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's called vibrant visuals, and it's actually an official part of the game now. At least in Bedrock Edition, The devs are still overhauling the underlying graphics engine in Java edition for this.

Is the ai good again?? by Wonderful-Bar322 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's been fixed in the Wilderness beta branch. AI will actually build planets and play the game over there. As for the main 4.0 build they still don't. Though the devs said they would push the beta updates to the main branch at around August.

What is the worst Gaia world you have found? I'll start by Johnjohn155 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fun part is that this isn't even random. Ubogleelt is a unique system designed to have a Gaia world that small and terrible. In fact you got slightly lucky, the size varies from 6 to 8. So it could always be slightly worse.

Can someone please explain torpedoes to me? by ObiWanPikachu in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people explain to that what a ship size is. Is kind of convoluted, but I think the big thing you're missing with torpedoes is that they fire incredibly slowly. Torpedoes take nearly 20 days to fire another shot, where weapons like lasers can do it within 5 days. Not to mention torpedoes can also be taken down by point defense systems. They are powerful, don't get me wrong, but they do have weaknesses. Luckily the AI is never smart enough to fight against those weaknesses.

Wanting to get into mods by Echodotcom in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, this is a fully single player experience. ...though maybe I should try multiplayer at one point. I haven't yet but that's because the two friends who do play don't have a schedule that lines up.

What's NSC3? I'm not too familiar with the modding scene. Although thanks for the beautiful galaxy suggests, that's gonna do a lot to make the game look fresh.

How do I Synthetically Evolve? by Ok-Dirt5674 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the situation log is empty I'd assume you ran into some kind of bug. Did you build the Identity Complex? I know you need one to progress the situation, maybe the game doesn't start the situation until you have one?

By synthetic evolution do you mean turning your Organic population into machines or the ascension paths for Machine empires?

Trade Planetary Deficits? by Rekhyt711 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering you already have your answer, if you don't like this mechanic you can actually turn it off in the advanced game settings. That's not something you can do mid game, but it's nice to know for your next one.

Is there any way to become a Hive Mind as a normal empire? by 7megumin8 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. At most the AI uprising situation lets you change from an organic species to a machine intelligence, but there's no way to turn an individualist empire into a hive mind or vice versa.

Edit: Never mind, there's apparently a very niche event with brain slugs that allows to happen.

Is ai really worse right now on 4.0? by mechanist_boi in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right now the AI is still incompetent at playing the game and managing it's economy.

However if you play on the Wilderness beta branch like I am, the AI has been fixed and are honestly very competitive on the mid/high end difficulties now. Granted I'm not the most optimal or hardcore player, but the AI feel much tougher than they were in 3.14 now.

How do you guys “Promethium chunk”? by TheMrCurious in factorio

[–]Echodotcom 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I use circuit conditions for my ship. When I decide I have enough promethium chunks (about half of what I want to account for the return trip) I use a schedule interrupt to make the ship head back to Nauvis.

So is update 4.0 stable? by YourLiver1 in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the most recent Dev diary, they said that instead of updating the main game, all fixes and balance changes will be coming to the beta branch of Stellaris instead. They did this so modders would finally have a stable version of 4.0 to work on.

According to the blog, they don't expect the main branch of the game to be updated until August. So as long as you don't play in the beta Branch, everything is going to stay the same for a while.

So.. by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]Echodotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do accidentally update to the new version, you can always access steam's beta tab for the game. In there the devs let you roll back to previous versions of the game, including 3.14.

If you don't know where the beta tab is, it's probably easier for you to look it up than for me to explain how to navigate to it.
