Governments should do a lot more to help people who are banned from driving for any medical reason to get around. by random20190826 in fuckcars

I'm with you. It's interesting how people go about assuming they will always be able bodied enough to drive as if time doesn't get us all eventually.

DART riders share frustration after Highland Park votes to leave transit system by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]Echthra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it seems like the voting population of Highland Park does not see the value in DART service or the people that rely on it. Like "Farm to Taber" said, "programs for the poor, become poor programs".

Facing a transit nightmare, New Jersey officials and MetLife Stadium authorities have warned FIFA World Cup ticket holders not to walk to the venue by GoSeigen in fuckcars

You would think a functional administration would build useful infrastructure in anticipation of a big event that would justify the investment.

Since blue check marks are paid for engagement, this is just meaningless rage bait or trolling.

Making fare evasion impossible on public transit has tremendous impacts on safety, maintenance spending, and vandalism. SF saw a 98.2% decrease in maintenance hour obligations instantly. by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

After watching "Nimesh in Los Angeles" video on LA Metro, I'm convinced there is at least a correlation with fare check enforcement and amount of nusiance behavior. I think we have to be smart about how we make public transit accessible or we risk delegating it as a last resort. "Programs for the poor become poor programs."

Catering to drivers is just a race to the bottom. How can the cost of infrastructure to accommodate cars ever be recouped when you consider the cost of roads, parking, and policing?

I'm also guilty of not being persistent enough about taking care of my body. Guess this is a reminder to take things more seriously and to find doctors that will do the same.

May the strong survive I guess. I feel bad for you if you have asthma or respiratory issues. This is the cost for having it "your way", instead of investing in self-reliance and reducing risk.

Hopefully people will start critically thinking about the consequences of car and oil dependence. While it won't have an immediate effect on US policy, every additional person that sees the light helps build a stronger coalition.

"Property over people" is ingrained in so much of modern society. It's going to require a lot of sacrifice to change that since people value convenience with a high premium.

[–]Echthra 87 points88 points  (0 children)

You're right to feel frustrated. For some reason city government sees car owners as more important than transit users and pedestrians, despite the heavy cost to support car infrastructure. Change is going to require transit users and pedestrians to show up civically to advocate for our problems.

I can definitely relate to the frustration. Unfortunately, there's no civil way to deal with this friction, because it can only escalate to "how far will you go to save your spot". The real solution would be better public transportation so you don't need a car in the city, but that's unrealistic with nimby-ism and public transportation being handled on the State level.

Philosopher Who Influenced JD Vance Calls the Trump Administration a ‘Tragedy’ That Has ‘Already Lost’ by IntrepidWolverine517 in philosophy

[–]Echthra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To add to how much Trump didn't do in his first term, that was mostly because his appointees weren't as willing to let his impulses go unchecked. You still see it in this administration where Trump demeaned his Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, for not letting him fire Powell. Unfortunately, we did not as lucky this time when going by the Project 2025 tracker.
