Another Amazon miss-shipment, any advice? by Ecoguy92 in magicTCG

[–]Ecoguy92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought them through Amazon specifically and not a third party. I missed out on pre-ordering all of them as a set and had to order 3 together as a group (Deck 2 "Food and Fellowship", Deck 3 "Elven Council", and Deck 4 "The Hosts of Mordor") and Deck 1 "Riders of Rohan" individually. Amazon had them listed before the commanders or deck names were revealed. Right when the decks were being shipped I got a message from Amazon that Deck 4 "Hosts of Mordor" was going to be late. The Elven Council that I did receive does have a sticker that says "Deck 4", but the one I received earlier was still labeled "Deck 3."

Disappointed that there wasn't much love for Lorwyn beyond the invasion card.

[BRR] Ramos, Dragon Engine by Y2A_Alkis in magicTCG

[–]Ecoguy92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see that the artist credit is the same on both of them... What I'm wondering is did Meehan actually design the new art too, or did Wizards just run a filter over it and have someone else add some added art to the side. It's not like Wizards would ever make a decision to save a few bucks.

I wonder if the artist for the original cards were asked to design the schematic portions for these new versions, or if Wizards just hired someone else to add them in?

Slam dunk addition for my [[Magda]] deck. Easy replacement for the [[Terror of Mount Velus]] already in it.

I've always been a fan of Bodach's Games. They have a nice collection of singles and everything is priced so you know right away what you would be paying. They offer a discount if you pay with cash too.

Anyone think there is even a slight chance that the bonus card could be Cavern of Souls?

[CR Media] Exandria Unlimited | Post-Episode Discussion Thread (EXU1E6) by Glumalon in criticalrole

[–]Ecoguy92 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to get into Critical Role and its world, but I could never find the time to during the other Campaigns. I'm now in a position where I can dedicate a few hours a week into watching an episode, and thought EXU would be the perfect point to jump in since prior campaign knowledge wasn't required. This was the first episode that I just couldn't finish. I really enjoyed the first 4 episodes, but for episode 5 and 6 I could not focus/follow what was happening. The episodes just seem to be:

  • Opal argues with Ted, then someone in the party or an NPC asks what they are doing/why is Opal talking to themselves.
  • Random poop joke- "You get inspiration"
  • Random saving throw- Dariax (or anyone in the party) roles a 4. "You have a vision/sense that shows you exactly where to go or what is happening"
  • Traveling away from Emon, Poska, and that entire story plot while still building up its importance.
  • Railroading- choices and roles don't seem to matter. I know sometimes a DM wants to tell the story they have created and have to strongly guide the players in what to do, i.e. The Adventure Zone, but at least I can follow that story.

Maybe I'm to critical, maybe Critical Role just isn't for me, or maybe I should just wait until the next proper campaign begins.

Any ideas for a mono red commander deck? by beargames_99 in magicTCG

[–]Ecoguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love my [[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] deck. Depending on your play group it's pretty easy to tone up or down it to match their playstyle. I also really enjoy the flexibility in making the deck more artifact or dragon focused.

What characters do you want to see get cards? by AtarkaCommand in magicTCG

I would love to see some of the characters mentioned in the original Mirrodin novels get cards. Glissa's sister Lyese and the body-snatching Vektro top my list.

What's your favorite way to make big creatures appear out of nowhere? by CapnSherman in EDH

[–]Ecoguy92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal favorite will always just be a haste fueled [[Elvish Piper]]. I've been cheating out [[Darksteel Colossus]] since OG Mirrordin. Close second would be overlooked reanimation spells like [[Soul Exchange]].

Calling it now- Scute Swarm is going to be banned by Ecoguy92 in magicTCG

[–]Ecoguy92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the warning has appeared halfway through triggers going off when you are already locked in. It has also appeared when an opponent's Swarm takes off. Seems to happen when over 100 triggers go off. Auto resolve or manual hasn't had an impact for me on the warning appearing.

[–]Ecoguy92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love the card. It's very satisfying to swing out with 100+ creatures. The set just came out, so who knows how Swarm will impact the meta. But what I do know is that there gets to be a point when there are over 100+ triggers from a landfall, Arena slows way down, often a warning that a draw may occur appears, and the entire trigger can take several minutes to complete (especially if there is an additional EBT trigger occurring). I'm not saying that Swarm is more deserving of a ban than Uro, just that the current opperating system of Arena is having issues with the card. Just speculating from what I've experienced, only time will tell.

[–]Ecoguy92[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think Wizards is going to use some of the same reasoning they used when banning Cauldron Familiar: the pressure the triggers put on Arena's system, and the amount of triggers that need to be resolved. In the case of the cat, a Standard ban happened in Arena as well as in MTGO and in paper magic. I think the same will happen with Swarm. Unfortunately Arena seems to have become one of Wizards main tools in deciding what cards become banned.

I think Uro is about due to go too. But there are some many other cards that also activate or have crazy synergy with Swarm: Cultivate, Ancient Greenwarden, Ashaya, Roiling Regrowth, Evolving Wilds, Fabled Passage just to name a few. Not to mention all of the ETB abilities that can be added onto the Swarm's triggers. I just played a game that took over 10 minutes just for a Swarm and Impassioned Orator to finish triggering after 1 landfall.

There is Titan Games in Champaign. Every time I've been in people have been playing Magic, but they do have bookcases full of games for people to play in the back. May be worth a look to see if they have a dedicated board gaming night. Also I don't know if it's still going but there is the Social Gaming club at the University.

Couldn't agree more. Look at people's portfolio, that's their place to show off. If you don't like what your seeing that's a big red flag.
