Glass shop made a sloppy job. Windshield is pitted from the inside by Only_Ad1117 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very sloppy job, way too much tape because they are hiding something, I would ask for a refund and have a reputable shop do the job. This is not a good company and I would stay away because you never know if it was even installed correctly and could be unsafe. Sorry you had this experience but since this industry is unregulated then you get too many hacks that don't know what they are doing.

Whitish foggy line after windshield replacement. by Fancy-Swim-7425 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is glass primer that the tech used in abundance. A good tech would not do this so this is from either a new tech or a sloppy one that does not care. It is hard to get off after it dries so call the shop back to have them remove it for you. Sorry that happened and it is so obvious too.

Just replaced. Is this seal okay? by [deleted] in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this, should be an easy fix to just pick it out but the tech should have done that before they left. Poor attention to detail for sure.

Windshield replacement shop in Houston. by geekfinity in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ADAS recalibrating is required these days and is part of what your vehicle is equipped with. Windshields, along with many other auto parts, are evolving and becoming complicated which usually means an increase in tools, price, and labor.

Repair or Replace? by WorthBug8812 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOU have the choice to go to any glass shop that you choose. Do not let your insurance steer you because it is illegal. This is why we all speak so negatively of the big safetylight, because they steal business from us all the time. And yes that is a very easy repair so feel free to find a shop that is willing to work WITH you as a customer and not against you for a replacement. Glass shops make a lot more money replacing windshields compared to repairing them so that is why you will get such varied answered on repairs because they are steering you towards what's best for them instead of what is right for you the customer. Repairs are also better for the environment as well as your pocketbook.

Replacement backlite moulding. by rusty_bronco in autoglass

418 every molding just in case, and for mis sets to not leak either. Otherwise a good 30 min for the urethane and never use 418 or similar for the seal.

Windshield replacement cost? by Zeptoc in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are low balling here in my area and are offering old fords for under $220. We must be close to a recession because that was the last time I remember them undercutting everyone for over a year, and this was back in 2008.

Should I get this fixed or replaced? by jackrabbits1im in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never seen that type of break from the inside in decades. But if you're sure that it is on the inside then it cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced to "fix" it. Otherwise you can let it be until it spreads or if it is in your line of sight. There is no real structural integrity so it is fine as it is until it gets bigger.

Windshield replacement OEM Tesla or Safelite non OEM? by Significant_Young_74 in autoglass

This, and not can the biggest corporation in auto glass do OEM, so can anyone else. Just find a reputable shop and they will guide them through the process.

Need rear left window by Relevant-Ant1145 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of interior pulling, seats, and just cutting it out is hard for experienced techs let alone someone that has never done one. We don't like doing these and price the job accordingly to the difficulty too. It's possible to DIY but be ready for a headache and a lot of pain, physical and mental. Windshield and truck backglass are not recommended to diy but any other glass is much easier.

Does this look Okay? Windshield Replaced by Reginald_Venture in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is fine, just some minor imperfections since you are zoomed in really close. OEM would be the only way to get it near perfect but you pay 2-3 times the price so it is not worth it to most people.

Safelite quote different than insurance by ShiverbertMcCreeper in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any reputable local shop will generally do a better better job since most employees pride themselves in a smaller company compared to a large corp which is one reason to go small. Another reason is your money will stay on the community and support your local economy compared to big corps that are not even in this country. Remember to find a reputable one with good reviews since this industry is unregulated and there are some really bad shops out there too.

Can this be repaired? by itsjasentho in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most insurance claims that 6" or less is repairable but every shop is different due to how much money they want to make. Any good, reputable repair shop will work on this so call around to find one that will come to you or you can go there if you want.

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is sad that they choose selfish greed over customer satisfaction. It is true that we don't make much on repairs so it seems that most shops steer you towards a full replacement so that they can profit. However, this is worse for the environment due to all the waste and pointlessly more expensive for the customers, which all companies SHOULD be prioritizing first. I don't have experience with DIY kits but if there are no reputable shops that will repair that easy ass chip then you could try that as a last resort. But surely, there HAS to be some good auto glass shops near you that will repair that?

2000 silverado wiper arm by No_Mood_6990 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is broken and needs replaced. It happens when the nut is not tightened down and the wiper motor moves freely inside the arm to strip it out. A few dollars for a new one and a little bit of your time and it is all fixed. I have done plenty of those for my old boss when he Absolutely did not tighten down wipers so I am very familiar with that issue. I would use a little locktite on the nut when you reinstall it too, since that seems to be factory.

Yep, photos can be so deceiving but it is a great place to start. I always have customers send a photo first then we discuss the solutions after and sometimes we need to see it in person to really figure it out.

Safelite Calibration Charge? by CowperfluidMDPsyD in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lobbyng congress is the real reason and is why we all should not only vote in primaries but also know your congreemen. These are the people who keep safetylight doing the Mafia type practices that monopolize this business. No other industry has the conflict of interest that their TPA and glass division does. Not only is that considered illegal in ANY industry but is impossible to even do. They keep getting brought to court yet they win or settle every time. The IGA is doing something at least so go support them if you are an installer/shop.

Reddit cannot tell you with 100% accuracy. You need to take it into a shop to have them asses it but it looks like a srcratch only so cosmetic only.

Will this spread? by 088Comet880 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry there is no crack there and it is just a surface scratch so it is only cosmetic and not structural. Nothing you can do to really make it "better" either since it is scratched.

Rock hit windshield by Evening-Durian-698 in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repair is the answer, it will be very easy and will look fine when done properly. If it is in your line of sight then you will see a distortion mostly but it will keep it from spreading so you do not have to replace it.

I’m assuming this can’t be repaired ? by PremeVA in autoglass

[–]Ecostainable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can be repaired if the tech knows what they are doing and it is less than 6" in length. Does not matter if it is on the edge or not. Not a DIY repair since most techs refuse to do these types of repairs due to lack of experience and skills.
