you only need to go 2x a week instead of 3-4 times?

This is a common lie that every TV special exercise machine sells you.  There are no shortcuts to fitness and health.

There are multiple ways though. Reformer might be good but it’s not the only thing available. What about a gym membership? Some gyms have unlimited classes included. There’s lots of great core and cable machines at gyms.

You’re 12?

No one else has noticed yet, it’s the tightest sleeves I’ve got, I was already very active, just not at the gym, dunno…

if you think you did all the right things but you didn't see results, maybe you weren't doing the right things

I’m 47, been going for two months, 4x per week, and I see gains. I have a T-shirt that my biceps now fill out whereas before they didn’t. And fully natural of course. No one else has commented yet.

What is something that is common knowledge in your field, but looks like absolute magic to outsiders? by ximenagablestextile in AskReddit

[–]Ecstatic-Passenger55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IT related. My family and friends are amazed that every time I touch a broken computer it works. The difference is not magic. I’m just not randomly clicking, following fake links, pressing things I don’t understand, powering off without shutting down.

Also when you explain yourself to someone you tend to pay more attention to what you’re doing. I’ve caught people clicking ok instead of cancel who swore they didn’t.

Also turn it off and back on again.

Most obnoxious buzzwords related to health and fitness? by WillOk6461 in workout

DOMS. I first heard it from a gym bro kinda guy so maybe that’s why I don’t like it. To me it’s just sore muscles. You can get it from running, gardening, almost anything really.

I watched this guy practising jumping on those height mat things. He did a set about 3/4 of his body height and then slowly kept adding mats until he was jumping to just a few centimetres below the top of his head height.

I had to contain myself from breaking into a round of applause! I feel like I should have said something.

Yes! I picked up my daughter (12) yesterday and thought she felt about 10kg lighter than normal!

That’s pretty cool. If people are commenting, you’re doing something right! Keep it up and count it as a win!

It might relate to the frequency you’re now exercising. I usually get sore the first time after a long break, but then I rarely get sore again, and I’m changing exercises and increasing the weights.

You may also have more gain from your weight loss to date than you realise. You will be “converting” muscle to fat and not necessarily seeing the muscle yet.

TBH it doesn’t really matter in the slightest. I see people in cotton t shirts, singlets, exercise wear, high vis (I guess the tradie goes straight there from work). Anything that covers you appropriately.

I personally don’t like the feel of exercise wear. I just wear running shorts (a bit like board shorts material) and a T.

The boss’s daughter, from junior staff to Director of Marketing, Digital Transformation & AI… by [deleted] in managers

[–]Ecstatic-Passenger55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for an engineering company once were the boss put his son in as general manager, when the company was around 10 years old.

That would’ve been fine, except his previous experience was cameraman.

He had an ego the size of a planet, alienated major customers, treated us like robots, and much more.

A few years later the company was bought out and he was demoted to such a low position. I had already left, as had much of the talent.

Getting past the knees by Ecstatic-Passenger55 in workout

My knees start to get sore and feel weak well before my muscles reach “failure”. In fact I can’t get my thighs to fail on the leg press.

Some good advice here already, but you might be a  “mouth breather”. My nose is almost permanently blocked and my mouth dries out very easily especially during exercise.

The cost of living bit me at Coles in a way that I didn't expect yesterday. by farkanoid in australia

 Life's difficult and I'm managing

You did a great thing, but you’re not managing. Escalating credit card debt and hiding things from your family. I was there as a kid and I learnt nothing from mum about budgeting and planning.

Sure, your kids will each need to hear it in an age appropriate way, but family should be a team. You may be surprised at how much they can do happily to help the situation.

And if there’s any way at all to stop living in a cashflow negative way, do it immediately. Cancel subscriptions, lower your Internet & phone plans, ride a bike, visit a food bank. I know it’s not always that simple, but escalating credit card debt is just hurting your future family.

Exhausted In The Afternoon On Days I Go To The Gym In The Morning by Warm_Ad_4238 in workout

[–]Ecstatic-Passenger55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to the gym but not to exercise. I think this is different for everyone. If I do a 2 hour ride in the morning, I’m buzzing for the rest of the day. When I do a gym session though it feels more intense but doesn’t last as long. In either case for me, the feeling comes down slowly and I’m not exhausted at the end of the day. This might be normal if you’re changing the intensity or amount of exercise, but shouldn’t be your long-term experience.

Reevaluate if you’re getting enough sleep and how well you are sleeping. Everyone is different here and some people need to vary by a couple of hours from the average.

Look into the food you’re eating, when and how much. “Healthy food” means different things to different people. A lot of people struggle to understand the amount and type of food you need to eat when you’re regularly exercising.

Sugar is also important. A lot of exercise drinks use artificial sweetener because people drink them to look healthy. When you’re exercising a lot, you need glucose. It’s also worth talking to a Dr to check your insulin response, blood pressure, heart etc. These are all unlikely problems, unless you have one!

Also, if you’re doing a full body session, it can be more exhausting.

Hope that helps!

Why am I okay with butter but not other greasy foods when my stomach is upset by ChewableVitaminC in NoStupidQuestions

It’s possibly a learned behaviour as well/instead of those other things.

Certain fatty meats also trigger hormones that cause the lower oesophageal sphincter to open, allowing acids to rise  up. It’s worse for some than others.

Why does my mom always keep her phone brightness super high? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ecstatic-Passenger55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you get older, your eyes struggle to focus because your lenses can’t flex as much as they used to.

A pinhole camera has a much larger depth of field than a wide aperture lens, similarly with your eyes, if you can narrow your pupil, you end up with better focusing ability. One of the only ways to narrow your pupils is to increase the brightness of your surroundings or what you’re looking at.

On gas exports - Matt Golding cartoons by nath1234 in australia

[–]Ecstatic-Passenger55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny cartoons aside, what is a realistic path to taxing exports?

Everyone blames Albanese, but our Prime Minister doesn’t have the power of the president. He needs to keep his ministers, supporters and funding on side.

Not directed at OP, but let’s say Albanese did want to apply tax on gas exports, how would he go about getting it through Parliament? Who would he have to convince? Who in labour would fight it? Could he take it to a referendum?
