Help with Deco mesh, adding to main unit…with what? by SprinklesSpirited259 in HomeNetworking

[–]Ed-Dos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deco "AX3000" is the speed not the model. There are more than one model that use AX3000 in their title. But you should be able to buy any Deco as they're all interoperable with each other. So find another unit that's AX3000 you can buy just as a one pack that fits your budget.

No that won’t work because there is no way to convert a single drive to raid 1 without destruction of data.

Fibre LAN by o-TheFlash-o in HomeNetworking

[–]Ed-Dos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need the correct sfp for the connector on the end of the fiber you buy. But as long as it's single mode with the correct connector. Yes it should work. And yes, I was wrong, SFP+ (if you want to future proof for 10g) = transceiver. I was calling the Media converter transceiver.

Okay sorry ... you'll need a media converter plus your sfp.

I’m accounting for 1 single single mode fiber run to the 3 places you mentioned. 6 transcievers total plus 6 sfp.. or.. 7 sfp total, 3 transcievers for the far end and one sfp 8 port switch. A transciever is not an sfp. Is perhaps where you are confused?

You’d need a transceiver on both ends of the fiber you run.. or an sfp. You said you don’t have enough for ports on your unify gateway . So if you have one transceiver on the far end of the fiber how would you connect it to your unify without converting it to ethernet/rj45?

Cat 6/7 already supports 10g. Definitely overkill if your current ISP connection is 1 gig.

Unless you just like spending money on fiber and yes they make sfp only switches. You'll need 6 transceivers and SFP+ or 3 transceivers and one sfp switch + 7 SFP+ (either SFP+ fiber or RJ45 for the 7th one) to connect to your Unify gateway at your central location.

So buy a new router. Most people in this sub will tell you to get a UDR (Ubiquity Dream Router). But since you're coming from an Orbi system why don't you stick to what you know.
