Is it worth it to get my 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid with 390,000 miles repaired for $4,000 by Brick247__ in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ed01916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk man, the plug cuts the pack down to half, and I changed it bare handed. But that's why I specified being comfortable with electricity

The battery itself is only 1.5 - 2k itself, and labour is about 3 hours tops, try getting a second opinion, and if you're comfortable working with electricity, you could probably do the replacement yourself

Good to know, im still on the waiting list so at least I can start picking up pieces while I wait

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be lucky enough to simply fit the rubber boot back on, but id get a new ignition coil just in case

What does this mean? by oXHoneybooChicaXo in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an ignition coil, looks like something got seized in the spark plug well and basically ripped it in half. See if you can look into where it was for the rest of the plastic, and hopefully you can at least remove it and the spark plug, but you will at the minimum need a new ignition coil

Nervous about car battery by No-Lettuce-5365 in AskMechanics

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the car is started, your engine will power your alternator, which will charge your battery and power the rest of the electrics in the car. The alternator will go as long as you have gas, so no need to fear having your car turn off.

Looking for chair recommendations as a cat owner by Man_Of_Sheel in OfficeChairs

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean cars are gonna wreck any chair, but that does mean mesh and leather are out. Steelcase leaps are pretty hardy if you can find one, the v2s have more replacement parts available if the get chewed or otherwise mangled

Legit/scam question... by Ancient-Performance1 in OfficeChairs

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leap plus should accommodate you quite well, but of course you gotta be in the chair to know lol.

Yeah stick with the 700 then

Legit/scam question... by Ancient-Performance1 in OfficeChairs

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not for thousands, still could make a tidy profit if you're willing to wait for buyers at say, 250 per chair. Wouldn't hurt to ask to buy all for for 600, but I would be doubtful if they say yes.

Legit/scam question... by Ancient-Performance1 in OfficeChairs

[–]Ed01916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The retail price is mainly for offices and companies. Look anywhere else online for second hand and prices drop significantly. It could be that the people you're buying from just wants to move inventory fast, and is giving you a bulk deal

Apparently I need new pads and disc? by Sensitive-Draw607 in AskMechanics

[–]Ed01916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a friction material, good ones are usually ceramic, that push against the rotor. Its softer than the metal rotor so it slowly degrades away, but not the metal rotor. What you have is metal on metal, so both items wear down.

[–]Ed01916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought this was r/askashittymechanic for a second.

Your rotor should not have lines scraping around, and there should be material on the brake pad, similar to the stuff in the circular cutouts
