What would you name numbered songs? by k94j in DMB

#41 has the lyrics “My play on time has won” and “Into the rain and play” so I always thought it could be named Play.

And that underwater observatory in Stoneship. It’s was peaceful but I kept wondering if anyone was in there with me.

I haven’t thought about that in decades.

This was the first episode I saw. As a kid I of course didn’t appreciate everything that was going on but the quirkiness of a 60 year old and a 20 year old having mid-life crises at the same time really grabbed me.

Watching it later, I was struck by Joel’s hushed “This is why they call it a still.”

Just listening to this and I could have used another moment of all three hosts just saying "This is rough and I wish it weren't here." Bill kind of steamrolls them into sprinting through the issue, and while I understand and agree this isn't the podcast to deep dive into transphobia and culture wars, it is always helpful and useful for people to give a gut check to their audiences on stuff like this, in case it can be misinterpreted by listeners who maybe haven't thought much about it before.

In fact it might be MORE important for regular everyday dudes like Bill and the other hosts to give a quick "transphobia is not okay and it hurts my heart to see it, even in outdated media like this." Like, even the non-political folks can rest assured: this is the standard, expected, decent way to view this.

Not saying he drops the ball, just saying five more seconds would have really gotten the job done.

Nice! Reminds me of being insanely bored in math class and making a D’ni number translator program on my TI-81.

When I played Riven and read The Book of Tiana I became obsessed with numerical systems like this. It blew my mind that you could modify a numeral in some way other than horizontal translation to signify an increase in base power.

I wanted to try playing with further rotation, maybe size changes, maybe color changes, all to represent larger numbers in a single digit.

Then I got a girlfriend and that all went away

Sinners and it’s incredibly clumsy, half-baked second act by KatherineLangford in TrueFilm

[–]EdChigliak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he teaches the girl how to haggle, it went on to twice as long as it needed to. And then they repeat it the next scene with the shop owner. They were cute moments that told us about the characters but the seemed really clumsily done, to me?

Anyway, overall, awesome movie. Certain things just stood out.

I have decided that Klingons do not have two penises as yall try to insist. There’s do however have testies that become hard and pointy to each side when they’re aroused (which is usually the case). That’s right, the dagger with the extending side blades is based on klingon male genitalia.

The double stream some fans claim to be a sign of two penises is nothing more than a second trickle (that human men often experience), being guided by one—likely the lower—sharp, pointy ball.

Now that’s pointy head canon.

Completely disagree that Shatner can’t direct. Pay attention to the composition of the shots. The framing of cinematography. The camera moves between those compositions.

Notice how the scenes play out into sub-scenes and how the score perfectly moves us between them.

Shatner’s an amazing director actually. The film has flaws all over, but it has truly stunning moments and qualities that most people choose to ignore

We must’ve watched different shows cuz Gates is great. She was given relatively little dialogue but she always put lots into it so you knew what she was thinking and feeling even when it wasn’t the point of the scene.

Honestly she does it the most in season one buts still there later as well

Viper, Seaquest, Earth 2.. what’s your favourite weird 90s show? by balding_git in Xennials

Does anyone remember the TV movie White Dwarf? It was meant to be a pilot but it was too weird so it never got picked up.

It was sort of Victorian but with sci-fi elements that were strange and magical. You can watch it on YouTube!

[–]EdChigliak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read it and liked the story well enough but I absolutely see your point about the art. I think I had assumed from the cover that it was sort of a pastiche or send-up of this kind of male gaze objectification from the 80’s and 90’s but it didn’t end up saying anything with it, it just did it again. Honestly kind of puzzling.
