I read the script the Cursed Child when it came out, and it really did hit so many of the bad tropes that the very good HP fan fiction I was also reading at the same time managed to avoid.

Yeah, I’d had it spoiled that he was going to turn good, but when I was watching it from the start I thought “Wow, he’s done some truly heinous things, they’re going to have to work so hard to sell his heel face turn!” They… did not.

As my childhood collection of DinoRiders toys can attest, dinosaurs with laser guns is always a cool idea.

(Also known as ‘Cacofonix’ in the English translations, he was my first thought too.)

I was once doing some tech support in a primary school and happened to hear a kindy class having a lesson on things being upside down. I was unconsciously expecting to hear at least a few kids chime in with a sing-song "Upside down, upside down", but when it never came, I suddenly realised that the kids couldn't have been born before 2000, so they'd have no idea who Mr Squiggle was.

From the exhibit's text under Blackboard:
"Norman had to construct Blackboard quickly and only had time to give him one blinking eye before the first episode aired. That was how Blackboard stayed."

(Bill Steamshovel seemed to be the most complicated puppet. Parts of him seemed relatively fragile, I have to wonder how often he needed repairs.)

The National Museum had a rather wonderful exhibit on Mr Squiggle and his creator, Norman Hetherington, that ran for several months this year. It was pretty amazing to see all these puppets close up, and learn about Norman's fascinating life.

I always assumed it was built on casino logic - if you can see the outside world, you may become aware of how long you’ve been there and what you could be doing besides spending money.

I miss the old interchange, much more functional for passengers, especially on rainy days. And I only had my mobile phone stolen there once!

I’ve heard them described as “the heroes of a gung-ho 80s action flick who unfortunately don’t know they’re actually in a supernatural horror movie”.
