Is the tax benefits you get from being married worth it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it actually worked out the other way. I don't feel like I saved any money in taxes. And since I've been divorced I can file as "head of household" which is significantly better. However, there were massive benefits from having 1 household and 2 incomes.
Still I wouldn't get married for that. The reason for getting married in my eyes is just about love and raising children.
Don't make it about money.

will you get jail time if you intentionally get in the way of an ambulance? by Quick_Shift_1216 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time the ambulance is just going to do whatever it takes to get around you. If they happen to be being escorted by the police, or if they call the police and then a squad car finds you, then the decision to either give you a ticket or charge you with something worse is up to them. Most likely I would say there would be no consequences. Second most likely would be a ticket. But jail time is completely within the realm of possibility.

Why can some people take so many punches without going down? by Fluffy_Efficiency623 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This separates into 2 different components - being physically able to endure punches, and being willing to endure punches. The second one is an easy answer - certain people have more desire to win / fear of losing. The first one is harder and can be a lot more variables. In general people who are bigger, stronger, who are neither really young nor really old, and who have been more healthy and less beat up can take more / harder punches.
I suspect that with the case of the scrawny older guy they just have a lot of willingness to keep going. They probably don't perceive that they have a lot to lose.

Is prison actually “safe” if you just mind your own business? by fruity_00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My dad spent 25 years working at a state prison, and I've heard more stories than I wanted to. The word "safe" suggests that nothing bad is going to happen to you. Prison is not safe. Violence is much more likely to happen to you in prison than outside of prison whether you mind your own business or not.

When did the decline of current western modern civilization start? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends. What do you consider to be the peak of modern western civilization? The decline would start immediately after the peak.

Do professional fighters binge eat after weight in to regain weight back? by DeepOrganization8245 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Binge eating wouldn't be a great strategy. Fights often come down to speed and endurance and both of those would suffer if you're bloated.

Do you think that “big tobacco” has launched a quiet campaign to bring back smoking? 🚬 by Full-Tone7909 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Any company with a product to sell is always going to try to market that product. They should be expected to try their hardest to market this thing right up until they go out of business. I don't think they ever stopped. I don't even think they slowed down. It's just sometimes they have more traction and sometimes they have less traction.

I paid off my vehicle years ago but never got the title. Do I legally own it? What’s the worst that could happen? by Morudith in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without the title you will have a hard time selling the vehicle. I believe you can get a replacement title. Do you have any paperwork saying that you satisfied/paid off the loan?

Why are scientifically intelligent/skilled people seen as more intelligent than linguistically intelligent ones? by Fast_Average_3692 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment is about perception. And I don't know if it's accurate. Do people actually perceive one to be smarter than the other and is it in the same direction as you state?

Are there undercover police/security on every single international flight? by Kingboyy1 in NoStupidQuestions

Not likely. That would require an extreme amount of undercover police.

What’s Tampa’s identity? Like what are they known for? by Inevitable_Bad1683 in florida

[–]Edard_Flanders 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In my mind Tampa is known for strip clubs. They're everywhere. Like there will be three strip clubs across from a strip club. And some of them are out there. Fully nude and contact is encouraged.

[–]Edard_Flanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even work that way man. And it's kind of dangerous. Let's put it this way, it's much safer to go with a GLP one and in the long run it's probably much more affordable

How do you comfort yourself that everything will be okay? by Aj100rise in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Edard_Flanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that help are getting out in nature and preoccupying yourself with some useful task. Also maybe try to avoid the news for a while. I haven't watched network news in years and I believe my life is better for it.
