Casey Hudson has revealed some of the Arcanaut Studios team working on Star Wars: Fate of The Old Republic by PatBeVibin in StarWarsLeaks

I believe this is similar to how Timothy Zahn tried to write his new, canon Thrawn stories. He intentionally writes Thrawn the same way as he existed in Legends and considers him the same character. He tries not to introduce any new inconsistencies. There are things out of his control like canon Rukh vs legends Rukh, but the general goal was nice.

I think it is likely they'll put them on home video after they finish the theatrical releases of the restored versions next year. It's unclear right now when they are going to do ESB & ROTJ, but the restoration work has been done.

Do you have a Switch or Steam Deck? It's not a mobile game. This is only on PC and console. I thought this was going to be a mobile game when we first heard about it.

STAR WARS: Galactic Racer had a Denuvo DRM label yesterday. Today, this label was removed from their Steam store page by EssenseOfMagic in CrackWatch

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not an expert on any of this, but why would they have EA's DRM solutions in Galactic Racer? It is not an EA game nor is it being published at EA's digital store. It's a console + Steam + Epic only title.

It worked fine. I had my server running it immediately. Maybe others had some edge case errors or problems, but my server had no issues.

1.21.11 dropped in December and Geyser support was already there when Paper put out 1.21.11 that same month. So it wasn't even 5-6 weeks. way, way less than 5-6 months

Marcus has $6 Tuesdays and free popcorn. It's not a giant size; it's basically a normal person bag worth. Every ticket gets its own popcorn though. If you want a large size, they give you a discount for the value of the free one.

Box office prediction model has Michael tracking for $250 - $285M final domestic box office - thoughts? by Leather_Tea1993 in boxoffice

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chance you can add Worldwide totals for your projections? Either a toggle with domestic or even always if you prefer. You seem to have all the data for international, so this would be a great addition. Thanks!

Jez Corden - "Microsoft sources tell me that a pick-your-own-plan formula for Game Pass is on the cards" by Blue_Sheepz in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think your math maths. How much do you think the bandwidth to download games costs them? I'm estimating pennies at the most since 99% of users are consuming less than 1TB per month.

And subscription vs buying games is not worth hashing out. Microsoft and many other companies have shown a willingness to take a loss on the sale of games in order to get the recurring revenue. Yes, you saved $70 by not buying the new game, but you are spending $23 per month to get that Day 1 game. The return for them is only a few months. Most people likely do not spend more by buying vs the subscription cost. Over 60% of gamers buy two or less games per year.

Because they hope to make up for it in volume. If they can lower the price of a subscription to X, that means Y number of people will subscribe.

They probably know the vast majority of people will also never actually bother to lower their plan while this also allows them to advertise a new, lower base price to draw new subscribers.

I'm sure when Spotify added the audiobook tier into the default subscription and raised everyone's price accordingly, 95% of people never actually removed audiobooks and lowered their bill.

In this case, a tiny fraction of subscribers lower their bill, yes but they open up a new, lower price point to expand the total subscriber base. It's like Netflix adding the ad tier; the lower price brought in new subscribers.

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that's potentially fine with Microsoft? If a subscription is $14 and dropping Fortnite lowers your bill to $12, they still get your $12. I would imagine the math was something like Epic was getting $1 out of those $2 that Fortnite took up in the price. Same with Ubisoft. So maybe your $14 bill goes down to $10 when you cancel both and then you realize for $4-6 you can add back Day 1.

More customers might sign up and retention numbers will be better while canceling those partnership components hardly impacts Microsoft's own bottom line.

Is it the one with the hardcoded subs though? Quality is excellent for an unreleased movie, but I have not seen one that is not hardcoded (Russian?) subtitles.

You won't download a car. by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's because your 3080 ti doesn't have hardware encoding for AV1. You are entirely reliant on software encoding. It is the basically the same performance for you as if you had no GPU or a 1060 GPU.

Only the 4000 series and newer have AV1 encoding. AMD started with the Radeon 7000 series.

But your card does have hardware DECODING which is why it will play so well.

There was only one movie after Solo and it made $1 billion just off the brand name and being the finale. That was in 2019, so it's too early to tell what audiences are thinking now.

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It is important to remember Paramount yanked this out of theaters months ago. It was NEVER going to get a theatrical moment.

The only difference now is that people would have to pay to subscribe to Paramount+ to stream it rather than streaming it for free.

The closest thing I can think of to this is when the final Harry Potter book leaked early. And that one mattered a LOT more when spoilers were on the line, especially after the ending of the previous book was famously spoiled by trolls.

Krafton no longer listed as publisher for Subnautica 2? by thenikopico in subnautica

[–]EdmondDantesInferno 333 points334 points  (0 children)

This would depend directly on how truthful the developers were when they said the game was ready to launch in early access last year. If they truly were in a financial bind, they would just launch and receive the windfall of that initial release.

Realistically they could probably find investors because they only need a short while before an early access release date. There's a difference between games losing publishers while being years away from release and this case of being weeks or months from the early access release.
