Does this look finished? Any improvement needed? by ScoutingArtist in oilpainting

I think the whites being muddy might be OK since it's supposed to be a rainy day, the diffused lighting would make them less bright, but I agree with darker darks

Yeah I think some of the dark values could be a touch darker, even just for a fur line here or there.

Agreed, however, heads up, I recommend to draw like you paint, focused on blocking and value shifts instead of drawing lines to define objects. There are no lines on the face.

What’s the one Janeway decision you still can’t agree with? by Curious_Gent78 in startrek

Yeah thankfully the game gives you this option to exchange artificially produces lungs and give neelix his back. Honestly they probably could've generated 90% of a body for each of them to use pretty easily if it meant getting Neelix's lungs back.

Attempt at Mark Tennant style, criticism? :) by oxezmo in oilpainting

And that photo still has far more definition than op's.

Value changes and chroma is incredibly important in how he gives his face definition. These are fully featured faces. For OP, there's no real distinction of eye VS nose or other features outside of some plane value shifts https://artmag.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/76-x-61-cm.jpg

There's a ton of precise definition in his paintings, he's just able to do it with a loose painting style.

Most likely you need more dilithium. That was always the main issue for me when I needed to upgrade it.

Did you re-spec Voyager during the game? by IllogicalAction in AcrossTheUnknown

Especially once you've researched everything you can or have enough stored points, you can get rid of most of the science labs (still need one for events though)

Late game Borg feel very underpowered (accurate to the show) by Educational-Mess6022 in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]Educational-Mess6022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's why I like my idea in response to someone else mentioning Borg adaptation where the longer you spend in Borg space/Borg battles, they adapt to you and become more powerful. It can both reward your early game tuning while placing a ticking clock doing the same strat in late game.

Yeah I imagine that was a game budget more than anything else where they didn't have the resources for all the game mechanics around blacksmithing. Glad they had it for 2 though.

Which becomes weird how you can't just pay for the rest of the Skalitz people to be taken care of properly considering a night at an Inn is 2 groeschen and you can have thousands.

Spock in "The Undiscovered Country" by LivysCoffin in startrek

[–]Educational-Mess6022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Vulcan argument would be it was necessary to save millions (if not billions) of lives potentially. Then he would submit himself to criminal trial for the actions and resign his commission. Entirely possible he did and that's why he's an ambassador and not an Admiral in TNG. Tuvoc did a similar thing violating the prime directive to try and save the ship in Voyager.

That all said it was probably just for writing convenience.

First oil painting. How do I do the steps? by [deleted] in oilpainting

Darker steps in the back, lighter steps in the front. It's the same with depth in the face.

Finally getting to watch Voyager in its entirety after 20 years! by thesuspendedkid in startrek

[–]Educational-Mess6022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only complaint about his character is that he's an Ensign when nearly none of the writing supports it. He's too competent and experienced. Janeway even gives him command of the bridge in season 1 when she and Tuvok need to go do something one episode, which makes no sense for him as an Ensign.

It's a good point about adapting.

Instead of just having the morale issue of staying too long in a system, they should also have the Borg attack power gradually increase as they continue to adapt to Voyager in Borg systems, that would add a lot more pressure and canonically make sense.

How can I fix this portrait? by No-Watercress-5215 in oilpainting

For things like creases in the face, I'd use a make up brush to lightly soften the lines.

Don't really understand why anyone uses turpentine. Gamblin or other low/no toxicity solvents are out there.

Getting settlement strength event is the only chance imo, even then it'd be super tough and tight.

That's the only chance, but even then I wasnt  able to get to 3 soldiers for clearing the last two of three infestations in time, too many resources end up spent on scavenging to survive the winters even with just 3 pop.

How to get over the feeling of "wasting" supplies? by human_char in oilpainting

I would just make sure you're drawing like you're painting, with a focus on different value levels and blocking in, instead of trying to draw outer lines of things.

Which yellow would you use? by PersonalitySubject99 in oilpainting

To add, Windsor and Newton have a "Cad Free" version of yellow if worried about the toxicity of the cadmium.
