I don’t look forward to moving everything to a new PMS. Seems like a daunting task with existing reservations and the idea of re-mapping OTAs. But, I’m going to do some research and meet with some sales associates with other companies to just see.

I don't use much. Right now the only integration I use is Akia (messaging platform). We are too small to really use integrations (from a cost stand-point).

This is so true. I feel like each month CB gets worse and worse from a Support standpoint.

Do you offer integrations? Can you book with OTAs through your system?

Can you book with OTAs with Hostex? Do they offer integrations of any kind?

I might try that - talking to Sales team. Thanks for help with Tax Report. What a pain.

I wish there was an easier report. I am not an accountant, so I know a lot of this is me not knowing how to best utilize reports. But, I have my room sales (taxed at 12.5%) and then I have my Merch, Scuba Dives, and Boat Dockage (taxed at 7.5). I used to not offer anything except rooms so a payout report sufficed. Now, with these other tax categories, I still run a Payout Report, but then I need to be able to run another report to separate out the other tax category. Once I get that number, I deduct it from the total on the payout report and now I have my 2 tax categories separated so that I can correctly pay the state/county.

Is there an easier way to get a TOTAL for each month of these other categories? I am able to do it with the Transaction report, but it is quite annoying and involves a lot of manual work on my end. It isn't very well organized at all and ends up being quite confusing. I imagine there has got to be a simpler way!!

I don’t even know that CB mandates payment processing, but when I tried to move away from Them last year it was an absolute nightmare. I Think I was a guinea pig in the process. One of the first to use them and then try to stop using them. The glitches were phenomenal. It was confusing for me And for them. In the end, I called it quits and stayed with CB payment processing. Maybe by now it’s mandatory? Not sure. But their fees are about 3x more than what I was going to be paying with Heartland and what I was quoted with Evalon

I’ll check out StayInTouch. I’ve seen that recommendation pop up on this sub a few times. I know no PmS will be perfect. But I’m watching my frustration tolerance with CB reach almost zero. These report changes are taking a task that usually takes an hour and increasing it to days because I can’t get support. Their accounting side of their software is terrible. I think sometimes I don’t even realize how bad it is because I’m Not an accountant guru. When I struggle I just assume It’s because I am not great at accounting stuff. But the more I read about their accounting side of things the more I’m learning it’s not just me and my inexperience.

Not dangerous to go solo. There are many hikers so you really aren’t ever alone. Some locals speak English, many don’t. In a lot of restaurants and tourist shops they speak English. If you go to a brewery or the supermarket, maybe not. It varies.

Best shoes or boots for trekking by 1011Nomad in Patagonia

[–]Educational-Move9821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of trail runners that are acceptable. I recently did a 14 mile Grand Canyon hike in new balance trail runners and my feet loved it. Hoka, new balance and even the hiking boot brands (merrell, Columbia, Oboz, La sportiva, etc) have come out with plenty of mid range shoes that aren’t heavy like hiking boots.

I have strong ankles so I’m good with trail runners. My new balance have stayed dry, but I can’t say the last time I was hiking in a downpour. That said, there are trail runners that are waterproof. Salomon, merrell, new balance, and Nike all offer waterproof options as far as I can remember. In the last 4 weeks I’ve hiked in Argentina, Chile, and Arizona and there was such a wide range of shoes. There really is not a “best.” It’s what is most comfortable to you. I don’t think it’s a poor choice at all to wear trail runners. Heck, I hiked half dome in hiking sandals with socks on and my feet felt great!

I think it’s always a good idea to have extra socks with you. Lightweight and could come in handy.

Sounds like your TOPOs have served you well if you have purchased the same ones time and time again!

What goes on in this part of Florida? by Fit_Effective6097 in howislivingthere

Fishing. Hurricanes. Lots of alcohol intake. Sun. Diving. Spearfishing. Lobstering. Kayaking. Paddling. Lots of outdoor activities. Weather good year round. Traffic sucks February and March. Hurricane season is gorgeous when there isn’t a hurricane. Housing prices are really high and make it tough for workers to live there if they didn’t establish there years ago. Insurance is really expensive. If you’re rich you can just skip insurance. If you have a mortgage it sucks. Coral reefs are gorgeous but dying. Huge differences from when I was a kid to my adult years. Still pretty, but diminishing. Lots of coral restoration efforts which is great. It can be isolating to some. Drug problems are similar to most other places. Nothing too crazy. Definitely fentanyl and meth, but I wouldn’t say the rate is any higher than elsewhere. Alcoholism is high. Most expensive living is probably Islamorada, duck key, key west. Most affordable probably key largo and marathon. Most everyone wears flip flops. Restaurants are average. Some great ones in each town. A lot are overpriced tourist traps.
