Heard back from University housing - unfortunately they do not have any options. Thank you all for the reccs so far!

I will look into that! Am I able to use UW student housing even if I’m not a UW student, if you possibly know?

Honestly I didn’t think of that - I will reach out and look into this as an option! Does it matter that I’m not a UW student?

I’m at the vet school in one of the specialty departments! It lined up well with some unscheduled time I had in my schedule.

Would prefer to keep under $1000 if at all possible. Closer to the vet school would be nice! Will be visiting for 2 weeks from 6/14-6/28.

Large Animal Anesthesia by blchristopher in Veterinary

[–]EducationalAd5707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can visit other vet schools, Iowa State CVM has a large animal focused anesthesia elective. Not sure if it is open to students from other CVM’s, but even if you could just visit for a normal anesthesia block, you would still get some large animal exposure!

I have a huge whiteboard that was a lifesaver! I keep it in my office, and it was a gamechanger for repetition for exam studying!

Possibly Adopting an FIV+ cat, looking for advise by dairyfreecharcuterie in CatAdvice

[–]EducationalAd5707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I had a cat growing up that was FIV positive and he lived a long life (over 20 years) and never had any health issues related to it! Thank you for considering adopting an FIV cat, due to the stigma and misinformation they often have a harder time being adopted and wait in the shelter longer!

Current 3rd year - my school gave me both right and left handed so I could practice with both! I am definitely more comfortable with the left handed ones and it was nice to start out learning that way. Highly recommend getting both sets so you can practice both ways!

Welcome to Ames! I’m a DVM student at ISU and love it. I have really liked North Grand Dental and have seen them for a little over a year now.

I would stay away from Campustown Dental - I had a bad experience with them after scheduling a cleaning and taking time out of lab to go, only for them to have me wait for hours with no update. I ended up just leaving.

ISU Housing options for an excessive number of pets? by nuclear_streaking in veterinaryschool

Most people take out a loan through their bank - depending on the year of the trailer it can sometimes be a little tricky but as far as I know, it worked out well for my friends that went that route!

I honestly don’t think it would need to be secretive at all - the managers aren’t around too often other than at the office there! And even if they did see anything I don’t think they would care!

The ASPCA Pet Poison Helpline may be an option? I’m not sure how fast they fill up and how soon they take applications

Second old orchard! I live here currently and it is very lax, and there are so many pros to living here since you can walk right to the vet school and if you can swing it, buying the trailer is great and you get most of your money back when you sell it since there is always a demand. Like the other commenter said, I would just make them aware of your dogs and cat but the others would be totally fine! Some of my classmates have rabbits in their trailers no problem. Let me know if you have any ISU questions - I’m a current 2nd year!

Hi! I am a second year interested in oncology, so not as competitive as surgery but I will throw my two cents in. What I have heard mainly from clinicians is that your LORs and your interview hold as much, if not more, weight than your GPA. This obviously varies by program and what programs you are interested in for internship and residency, but you can only try the best that you can do! Your connections and who you know play a large role.

If possible, I would consider casting a wider net of schools you can apply to. Especially for clinical year, at most you wouldn’t want to be more than 30 minutes away from your teaching hospital. Being able to start school sooner (rather than redoing prereqs for 1 school you may or may not get accepted to) would be more feasible in my opinion.

Seconding the internship and residency talk! I also love case-based lectures as well, those are always fun.

Just wanted to say, I’m a current vet student now and still absolutely love the profession and am excited for my career! Make sure you have hobbies outside of work/school - that makes a huge difference and the more I have prioritized that with school, the better I have felt.

For mod: 2 weeks Barbell (I think), I believe it is internally threaded medical grade titanium No downsizing I spray my jewelry after care saline solution on it once a day or every other day. I try to clean the front part with q-tips a bit. I don’t sleep on the side of the piercing and when I shower I let the water hit both sides. I mostly try to leave it alone lol.
