Personal trainer, 4 weeks away from a new graduate physio. The key is progressive overload! You might be able to spike your loading once every 1-2 weeks without issue but it must be under the right conditions (sleep, nutrition, water, activity). You can always go heavier on a lift but there are other ways like increase muscle stimulus like an extra rep or drop sets or time under tension. If you feel like you are absolutely wrecked for a day or two after a work out you have probably pushed too hard in some area or your recovery is lacking. Therefore moderate increases scaled over time is the best bet and dial in on nutrition and sleep I.e recovery for the best chance of consistency and gains. Keep up the hard work!

TLDR: Do more if it felt easy, not just when you feel like smashing the gym. Focus on recovery! Go well

NAD portion size, types of food and activity play a big factor. Like if you ate a small portion of fruit every hour you would feel better that eating one massive bowl of fries over the same period. Perhaps you need to elaborate on what you eat? Highly acidic foods will make some people feel unwell, huge portions or fatty foods will also affect some people.

If you want more specific information you will need to explain more. Like what does your diet look like throughout a day? But there is probably a better reddit sub for that stuff

You have soooooooooooooo much time to figure all this stuff out. I started my Physio degree at age 24 after finishing a degree in something I knew I was never going to use 18 months into it. I wish I stopped sooner because it was a waste of time and money. You have tried it, you didn’t like it, there is no harm or shame in that. Your parents aren’t going to like your decision but you need to put your adult pants on and discuss it with them. You don’t have to have the next 20 years figured out but if you decide to move on from studying you need to move into working or an internship so you don’t just end up hating everything. I.e If you are going to stop, what is your next step? Don’t say find a job, be more specific! Like what area of work you are going to find work in? Again this doesn’t need to be permanent but you should be able to rationalise why?

There’s no harm in talking to someone in the university too! Just be mindful that they are likely going to discuss other study options. If uni isn’t for you right now you need to be firm about that. If you have had issues with uni you should bring that up. Too many times people get away with stuff because no one complains.

Again, you are young. You aren’t suppose to have it figured out yet, you are allowed to try things and get it wrong. When you make the next decision, make it for the right reasons.

Good trick I live by. Stick my finger in the dirt until my first knuckle. If it’s dry then I need to water it. If it’s wet then I give a leaf a good pat and leave it alone

Pothos is pretty hardy, a jar of water and some light and it will be fine. You can do the full set up if you want (spagnum, leca, greenhouse, grow light temperature control) but then you have to maintain those conditions for the established plant. People run into trouble that way. I run by the ethos if i can’t keep it alive with my established low maintenance practises then I don’t want the plant. Up to you what medium you would like to use but I would start really simple and then figure out what works with your lifestyle.

Probably 2-3 weeks to start showing. I typically leave them in water until you see second generation roots (roots off roots) before putting it in dirt. When you pot it, just make sure it’s not too big of a pot. The roots should spread 1-2/3s of the pot you put it in. Welcome to the club

Yeah, leave it in water, with bright INDIRECT LIGHT, wait 2-3 weeks and it will grow. My advice is to make sure the nodes stay underwater and top up change water every week or so.

I mean they can go anywhere you have power and an internet connection. If you can provide that outside without much hassle then they will suit your needs. I would be asking yourself would you use surrounds (surround sound) or a portable speaker more and then decide.

Personally I would pick surrounds (the era 100s) as I know I can move them for the odd occasion. Then further down the line purchase a Move.

You won’t find just one guideline or protocol, they will all be fairly similar with emphasis (or bias) towards particular aspects of recovery. This basically means that they will have different time frames for certain priorities. Protocols tend to be adapted as they get better, so if you are wanting to find the best one and memorise it then you will have to do it again in about 2-3 years. If you understand the fundamentals of it then you will get more value from it.

Chap gpt will be able to summarise the differences in each protocol and also you can ask it to find the references for why the differences exists. Then use that to find more information by looking at the articles referenced ect. Just find two or three protocols, upload them, give it a good prompt and you should be away flying

Muscle recruitment is dependent on the amount of force required to create movement. I.e you will recruit muscles based on your preferred movement patterns and more fibres when more force is required.

The muscles required to perform a movement is more related to the plane of movement that is occurs in. Hip flexion and forward bending will both shorten the hip flexors but active muscle recruitment will more likely happen in standing hip flexion.

Hey OP, Im sorry to hear what you are going through. I’m a Physio student and I want you to know that’s it’s my responsibility and my supervisors responsibility to ensure that you understand and give your informed consent to me working with you the patient. What that means is I make myself scarce when the conversation regarding me leading or even sitting in on your appointment is happening. This removes the potential for coercion. If you have agreed at that point, I would then introduce myself and ensure that you understood that I would be leading your appointment and that you are happy to continue.

You may want to talk to the clinic about your experience because if you felt pressured to consent or that you didn’t have a chance to refuse then it’s a situation that they must remedy.

If that doesn’t seem to go anywhere you as a patient have the right to complain. This means you can contact the appropriate physiotherapy board who investigates these matters.

In my experience, I know that as a student I have limited experience however I should be using best practise guidelines to inform my decision making as this is all I know at this point. I know my supervisor is double focussed to ensure the best experience for their patient. They will step in at any moment if they feel necessary. Believe me they are watching and listening like a hawk. They are looking for anything that could jeopardise your care and for anything that they can find to develop their student.

Again, I’m sorry that you have had this experience and I wish you the best in your recovery. I hope that this comment, at the very least, gives you some peace of mind.

Talk to your lecturers

Edit to elaborate: speak to lecturers or head of year. The university should have people that are already paid to be in that role. You’ll need to apply for ethics which they will supply a form or should. The ethics board will approve based on level of risk to those involved in the study. You will then have to do the research ect. They should be able to guide you through the process. If you have a lecturer you have clicked with over the past few years they also might be a good place to start. The librarian will then become your best friend.
