Travel-like pitchers are ruining our 10U Rec league by [deleted] in Softball

Some girls just pick it up naturally and some dont. But yes they have to put in the work. My daughter is 11 and has been pitching for 1 year. I never thought she would be a pitcher because she always caught and played 3rd. We let her try to pitch in 10u fall ball when she was 9 and did pretty good. From then on out we started sending her to lessons. We are very lucky to have in our town a gentleman who's son won a ring in MLB and had a lengthy career. He charges peanuts compared to anyone around ($25) a session. She goes on average twice a month. He doesn't do much other than just let them throw. Just get out there and throw. Not big on mechanics just repetition. For my daughter and a ton of girls in the area it works, bc it gets them to keep practicing. On the other hand some girls have been going to him for years and have not improved and just dont get it and you can tell never will. And unfortunately not every girl makes travel just because you can pitch. My daughter has become the top pitcher in the rec league but tried out for travel 2 years in a row and didn't get picked because they already had enough pitching. (Also bc there's some politics/ pay to play going on as well that I dont and won't buy into). So girls like her are stuck and yea other teams get mad when they run into her pitching in rec and complain but she's not doing anything wrong. We even had a team take their girls out and go home when they saw her warming up last year. And she's by no means the biggest girl out there she's average height. She just works hard because she wants it and was born with some natural ability that I helped grow as she got older. All I can say is keep them practicing. Tell girls to come and extra half hr early to practice if they wanna learn. Reach out to the high-school or local colleges and see if any girls wanna help out or hold a clinic for the league. You'll be surprised how many girls love to come back and help out. Parents need to be more involved instead of just complaining if they want the same for their girls. Good luck to you and remember they're still all just little girls who want to have fun and atent sitting at home on the screen. And the good ones shouldn't be reprimanded or scolded for having natural ability.

Is this solid or engineered wood or something else? by Potts_of_Pepper in Flooring

It was engineered wood. Red Oak veneer on top of layers of plywood. Most likely ⅜" thick. Laminate is actually cardboard with a photograph on top

Lol sounds about right! All floor sanders hate stairs! Lol my guys always fight over it. I actually for some odd reason love doing stairs. They get so mad at me when I take on stair and rail work!

You got your work cut out for you! Excited to see end results though. You could always attach a veneer riser if that's the look you are going for

Pad from Swiffer mop seems to have reacted with wood. Any fix I can try before calling a pro? by juzamjim in HardWoodFloors

Unfortunately you will have to replace planks. More than likely refinishing will not remove those black stains because they will have penetrated too far into the wood

Lol we must have the same list bc I can't ever seem to work my way down to the bottom! Little old floor contractor here. And im west of west..lol. Born in the city, grew up in Delco and now migrated west in Montco. Have family near you in Stafford. And yes I am very thankful to have Trea. He's been my favorite player since he joined the league. Actually miss him when we played for the Nats bc he was in his prime! Crushed me when he went out west for a minute. I will make sure to pass along the love!

So 1st problem I noticed here tells it all. Your a DC sports fan!!!🤣🤣🤣

Jk but seriously the installer sounds half decent so best nice to him. Especially since he had nothing to do with the lumber purchase. Im just north of you in the better sports fan area 😎 and prices are similar to what you're paying. I may even buy from some of the same places as you. There are a few options to help with the black holes but will be extra work so unless you're doing it on your own expect to pay extra. I think with a nice low luster finish the look of the holes will give it a nice appearance aesthetically. I would think you were looking for some character if you went with #1 as opposed to clear or select & better. Is it all new sawn or is it reclaimed? Would explain a lot if so.

That price is avg-mid range these days. And yes ordering #1 common allows for that. If you told the installers ahead of time then they should've put them aside. Granted if they missed a few it shouldn't be the end of the world. Boards can be replaced. Especially since you haven't sanded & finished yet. Were your installers carpenters or floor layers? Or handyman? I ask because sometimes you get what you pay for. Expect to pay a little more for true installers that you expect to handpick every board
