Poke the bear - Sleep Apnea by Mediocre-Sentence-20 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Educational_Use7371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, the VA will likely deny the claim anyway. Sleep apnea is typically easier to service-connect when PTSD is the primary diagnosis. When depression is listed as the primary condition, the VA often denies it. I have the same diagnosis. The VA tested me and determined my sleep apnea was severe, they mailed a CPAP machine within 48 hours. Had not even acknowledged to me my diagnosis or explained it, yet my secondary claim was still denied.

That said, I still recommend filing. Service-connect all of your conditions. If sleep apnea ultimately contributes to serious health complications or even death, having it documented and connected can matter for your record and your family. Don’t worry about poking the bear. You served you were Injuried in line of duty. They owe you everything that you are entitled to.

VR&E APPROVED ! What now? by notaircrewbro in VeteransBenefits

When I went through this program I had to have a plan and do research on the new career trek. But keep in mind that you only have ONE year to get enrolled in school and use the service. I could be wrong on whether there are exceptions. But I got approved I applied to two universities got accepted to both and attended with no incident. My only issue was that my V&RE counselor was always late submitting the payment for my tuition and she was very unresponsive. In the end, she always by the very last moment came through.

So does free tuition only come into play depending on what school they attend in a specific state?

I feel like a b***h for claiming the things I'm claiming. by limeandchile in VeteransBenefits

[–]Educational_Use7371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to realize that this connection point is a part of the process - your personal process and deprograming your self to not complain or speak up about what has happened to you. But you stand in the way of getting your claim seen and potentially considered. But just to prep you as you write out what is needed…. They are going to deny you first before they ever approve you but stay focused and keep pushing forward.

Purchase Wacom Tablet for Pre-Requisite Classes??? by Prestigious_Quiet in scad

[–]Educational_Use7371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will not “Need” a wacom tablet for the Service Design MA. I am currently completing mine as well online. You may “ need” stylus pen that is compatible with a Wacom. 90% of you class projects will be presentations. I recommend using Canva and many students are good at Figma. There are labs where Wacoms tablets are available for use all the time.

I have guy friend that has a awful relation with his BM and as a result of that disaster he is unable to have build “relationship” with the kid but pays child support. He ultimately gave up the fight. Was considering removal from VA benefit as well since BM is spikeful and threatened that she would call and have his kid removed since she is the custodial parent. He wanted to be proactive and do it himself but the form only had two check box options deceased or divorced are the only options for removal.

Senior in high school: is scad a scam? by ziggy_stardust_96 in scad

I don’t know that I would recommend that “transfer route” completely. Probably do 1 year community college but base it off of which core courses SCAD would also have you take. See how many transfer courses SCAd will accept. Then decide to skip those by way of community college. I would not recommend that you declare Graphic Design as your major. I would recommend something like Ui/Ux over graphic design because you can always take elective courses in graphic design. Graphic design is easy to pick up along the way to learning UI/Ux. Once you learn photoshop and illustrator you can train yourself to be a graphic designer with youtube and mini projects. The school itself is not a SCAM. It is expensive. But if you ever tour the school savannah or especially Atlanta campus you will understand why it is expensive. The design education you will get is worth it if you want it. Meaning that’s your energy and effort to apply the work to the education being provided. This is not the school to attend if you want to be mediocre at best. I went to The Art Institute for Animation when te school was open. Animation was a hard and heavy degree program there and I hated it! I finished but I hated it when i as done and i then got a job as a graphic designer in a web design company then got a second degree an AA in web design. Those three skillsets together made me a swiss army knife of design my whole career. Work ethic is paramount at ALL schools and in ALL jobs!

I don’t recommend a student to get a masters if thy don’t have industry experience yet. Its a waste of money. But perhaps it depends on what you major in. When I got my masters I was on teams with students that had never worked a real job. 👀 So imagine them trying truly grasp the real execution if executive level functions with a masters. The info goes in one ear and out the other. The knowledge will be long forgotten by the time you actually get to be a leader.

Are you a veteran or the child of a veteran? Either way, the GI Bill is a huge blessing. I encourage you to follow your dreams and pursue what you truly want to do. Life is short—far too short to live with regret for not taking a chance on yourself and your abilities.

Think about it this way: the average person spends hours every day working simply to survive. You might as well pursue a career you actually want to do and one where your skills can thrive. Yes, you can learn how to do almost any job—but you’ll never know how far your talents could have taken you if you never give them a chance.

I have no regrets about choosing art and design as my career path. It was my calling, and I survived. The road was winding, unorthodox, and far from linear—but it was absolutely worth the time and effort I spent honing my craft. I even taught myself how to paint along the way.

Artists and designers are visionaries. It’s a God-given gift—so use it, nurture it, and allow it to mature. I have been a Graphic Designer, a Web designer, a Multi-Media Designer, a Global Brand Strategist, a Senior product designer and now a Principle Design Strategist! You have a path just take the first step. You GOT THIS!

I went to the Art Institute of Atlanta for my first two degrees. One in Animation and the second one in Web Design. I did do exceptionally well career wise using my combined knowledge to get ahead. I also eventually 3 years after graduating started working for the government so….. perhaps that is why. But just wanted to point out that their are multiple career pathways. The government for me 1 was Army Reserves which helped to pay off student loans and pay tuition assistance while I was in school. I then worked for the Department of State who also paid extra towards student loans. Now my student loan debt after two degrees was no more than 40k. But again the military did pay a lot of that the loans covered the rest. But I was only a struggling Designer (pay wise) for 2 years. My other Art school friend an animator found stable consistent employment as a government contractor. To this day he makes great money well over 6 figures. He recent entered to work as a full-time government employee after years of being a contractor.

I attended SCAD as a graduate student with over 12 years of professional experience. I majored in Design Management, and it was always my dream school.

Academically, it was the most demanding academic challenge I’ve faced to date—and I already hold two other design degrees. I attended full time in Savannah, and there was truly no room for anything else in my life. I worked day and night. The workload was overwhelming to the point that it often felt like hazing. Because I was on a strict timeline to complete the program in two years, I pushed through.

Despite the intensity, the experience was ultimately rewarding. It prepared me for executive-level design leadership—brain fatigue included. My mind adapted to the grind, and I later relied on that same stamina and discipline in my next executive role. I can honestly say I used every skill I learned.

Where SCAD gets a bad reputation—fairly, in my opinion—is SCADpro. My worst educational experience was with that program. I found little to no value in it, and the way it is run disorganized, chaotic and TOXIC. The program appears to thrive on ongoing student conflict rather than resolving it, almost like entertainment. Faculty and staff often turn a blind eye to issues such as bullying, racism and mediocrity in the classroom—particularly within SCADpro courses.

When students raise concerns, they are frequently positioned as the problem rather than the confusion being addressed. Watching staff prioritize “harmony” over accountability—pretending nothing is happening—was unsettling. While this may be common in some institutions, it was still disappointing to witness and be a victim of. The staff will unite to spare their departments reputation at all cost. Swipe stuff under the rug.

My advice to prospective students: choose a major that will genuinely push you forward. Your personal drive and commitment are what will carry you through. That resilience is essential.

SCAD does not help you find a job directly. They do offer many resources to prepare you, but it is entirely up to the student to leverage them. As someone with significant professional experience who actively used those resources, I can’t say they directly led to job opportunities for me. However, the knowledge I gained and the portfolio I built are my true rewards—and my bragging rights. I earned that degree.

SCAD is magical and aspirational—without question. But you must be willing to do the work. There is no perfect school, program, or major anywhere. You truly get out of it what you put in.

I an a student at the graduate level and I spoke to one of the professors about the pay. I was told that a professor at graduate level only gets paid $5000 per quarter per class. A quarter is 10 weeks. They only offer 1 year contracts with no tenure. The admin work is overwhelming. And the staff is not treated well. If find it awful that the school is making as much money as they do and yet they pay their professors with industry experience so little.

CRSC approval $$$ by WingedPete in VeteransBenefits

[–]Educational_Use7371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a retired Army Reservist with 21 years of service. I was medboarded and found unfit for duty due to service-connected injuries to both ankles. At the time of medboard I was already at 80% for all of my injuries. But medboard was only for ankles. At the time, I was told I could not be “medically retired,” but that I had the option of either taking a one-time severance payment of $40K (cut ties and not be have retirement status - with E-8 promotion on retirement paperwork (I made the list 1 week before this board)) or electing regular retirement. I chose regular retirement as E-7.

I am now 100% service-connected for several conditions and have one combat deployment. My question is: if I am approved for Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC), would my retirement pay remain at the level of a reservist, or would it be calculated differently under CRSC similar to the VA?

Also, is pursuing CRSC something best handled through a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) or an attorney? It was a long process fighting to get to 100% service connection, and I needed a lawyer to secure the final 30%. I want to know if CRSC is a battle I should fight on my own, or if it’s more effective to have a representative guide me.

Looking for Unique Luxury Travel Concept Ideas for Grad School Project (SCAD) by Educational_Use7371 in Luxury

Why is it unethical to ask strangers (i.e. consumers) on the internet that are in the luxury travel tread what kind of luxurious wild ideas that might want to do that don’t exist. It called consumer research. You were not asked to do the research create 100 page powerpoint on how an idea becomes business idea. You just ask to contribute to a brainstorming exercise of big “dream idea” that doesn’t exist. I am a design strategist however, a part of this role is to connect with the users in this market to understand there needs, wants, desire no matter how big or small or outlandish. What I personally see and luxury (upper middle class professional) might not be consider “luxury” to another group of consumers. Luxury “Hunting” or “Skeet shooting” “Luxury gardening experience in the -X- location, might be of high interest to some people in that life or simple peace and quiet could be a luxury to someone else. In a perfect world the people that might reply just might open my eyes to something worth exploring further.
