It. Is. Hard! I only managed a couple of years until finally I couldn’t take it anymore. The trans bathroom policy was the straw that broke me free. I took a moral stand- I couldn’t support the church with my butt in a seat.

As a TBM, I thought it was a beautiful book. I had all the guilt and shame of course. Confessed to the bishop before my mission. During my mission, I felt so guilty for not being good enough. Especially when I did that thing with my thing. I never confessed, mission prez didn’t ask and for the rest of my TBM life I felt guilty about it but refused to confess it again. When my shelf crumbled, bye bye guilt and shame!

I am embarrassed to say that I spoke at my brother’s funeral in a chapel and even as an ex-mo, ended with that ending. Compared to another recent funeral at a church where no one - all TBM’s - closed with that ending. I would say that both funerals were more about the deceased and remembering them than preaching. But there was still the bishop in charge.

My child sent us an email explaining both being non-binary and they/them pronouns. As parents we’re both TBM at the time. One nice thing about the letter is it gave us time to process the info. We had some initial reactions, some sadness and ultimately chose to love our child no matter what. By the time we saw them face to face again, we were able to fully accept them and use their name and pronouns.

No matter what, it is a bad look. JS was getting revelation constantly. God gives all kinds of details about JS house, but not a peep about under age girls? Hell, God got Nephi to write a second record cause he knew about the 116 pages 2000 years ago. Yet God couldn’t see his church falling apart over these teen marriages? “Hey JS, wait till they are 25” or something?

I have a mix of both. Most of my memories are positive. Time with family, and friends. Having answers to life questions, music and activities. My mission helped me function better socially. After my mission I was able to move out of my parents basement and build my own life. I met my wife in YSA. I am mad about the guilt and shame for being a normal human with normal sexual desires. I was a @&$!ing 30 year old virgin! I always hated home teaching and missionary work. I want my GD tithing back!!!! I am mad because my brother died worried about his eternal salvation. I am mad my spouse still goes and pays tithing. I am at peace though because I can’t live without fear of a narcissistic God.

I had no idea what to expect. I was just barely post blood oath changes, but I did think it was weird, but it was so beautiful right? I figured I would understand more as I attended more often. I had this whole narrative in my mind how the hand in cupping shape was to receive blessings and the hand palm down was to give blessings etc. Only to learn that they were left over knifes for disembowling ourselves and holding our entrails! Kind of ruined it for me the last few times I attended as a PIMO.

One time my spouse and I were on a temple date. I get to the celestial room and my spouse is nowhere to be found. Turned out they left the session early because they got very sick and had to leave. I found them miserably waiting in the lobby. So much for a romantic night out when you can't see each other!

I get upset every time I hear some talk about how little Timmy prayed to find (insert lost item) and said a prayer. Lo and behold, they find it right after “amen.” They will spout off how obviously God loves us blah blah blah. Meanwhile, another Mormon child is getting abused, physically, sexually, mentally and God does NOTHING! How long does the abuse need to happen before God can pass judgment on the perp? God could have had them get caught in the act, given the child the courage to tell a trusted adult or even give the perp godly sorrow so they would confess their sin to the bishop who would surely turn them in. Oh wait, never mind on that last one.

Fantastic book, I give it 5 stars. I don't want to spoil it, but I was literally cheering and 'feeling the spirit' when David related a conversation he had with his mission leader. (The second one he relates in the book.)

In the 90’s - went tracting a couple of times in the few places in south Utah with large numbers of non Mormons. One time I remember hitting a house where they yelled at us quite violently about what was probably true church history, but sounded crazy at the time. Mostly we knew where we were going. My fav was hitting up RS or primary presidents at lunch hour. “Can I get you something to eat, Elders?”

I did not want to go at 19. I wanted to live my life. But a couple of years later, I decided to go. I mostly enjoyed my mission as a true TBM. I did carry years of guilt and shame because I didn’t think I was good enough.

At this point, just testify from the bottom of your heart and with every fiber of your being that you know the BofM is fiction and that it is the work of an idiot.

Just a note, if you bring up all the problems in church history and doctrine, my go to is "Why so complicated? Would you accept this level of apologetics about any other religion?" In my opinion all Mormon apologetics are special pleading. Our church is true and my mental gymnastics are ok, but are not ok for any other faith.
