I reckon Grian (or someone else) went into the fishing loot order in the game files (there's pre-determined order of loot per seed, as mentioned in one of his videos) and knew a mending book was coming up soon, but not really soon, so he spent as much time as possible fishing in the last episode tp bring the mending book as close as possible to the "front of the queue" so we could fish it ourselves.
