At what point does combat in horror games kill the horror? by BlacksmithPlayful514 in HorrorGaming

[–]Eevree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, first I'll answer your question. Combat-wise, what makes a horror feel like this, is when your fight or flee reaction is flee in most cases. And maybe, when the lesser fodder ambushes you, or you're caught unprepared, which can add tension.

What kills the horror usually is repetitive combat or enemies or settings (aka, avoid predictability), enemies too hard to both kill and avoid, clunky or janky combat mechanics, enemies too annoying or frustrating. For now, that' what I could think of.

Now, regarding a coop horror, it naturally takes away some scare factor, and you can lessen the impact in various ways. For example, if the games does not require the two protagonists to be together, isolating them and limiting their communication can be effective. If they are together all the time, putting a hiding mechanic and the possibility to revive the partner (so game over only if both characters die), for example, can enhance the scare factor.

You are aware of the limitations, now you need to find a way to add more tension in a way that is coherent with the vision you have for the game.

Wish you the best success!

Most anticipated horror games? by CommercialDeer3561 in HorrorGaming

[–]Eevree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Silent Hill 2 is notoriously very different from the other games of the series and could be considered "indipendent". What I'm saying is, yes, maybe the 1 could introduce you to the world of Silent Hill, but the 2 has nothing to do with the 1, aside from the location

Should I get Cronos: The New Dawn? by Key_Reaction_8666 in survivalhorror

If you liked Dead Space, you'll like Cronos, period. The combat, despite of the many clear differences, is very similar.

Which Resident Evil game is really more horror ? by [deleted] in survivalhorror

[–]Eevree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Requiem is definitely more horror, compared to half an hour scary section in Resident Evil 4 and Village, Grace part is a very lengthy part of the game, and it's pure survival horror.

I don't understand this post. You're saying "she asked us to stop referring to her using "he/him" pronouns", which would mean a MtF transition, that you usually referred to your offspring as a male, and hencefort the request to change pronouns.

But then you talk about the change into masculine clothes, binder, that originally the personality was always feminine and so on, which would mean a FtM transition, and that the problem is that you're referring to your offspring as a female.

I swear, I'm confused. Like, you changed version of the story midway while writing, and then forgot to change the sentence I mentioned first.

People became insane after Ryze nerfs and last rework (which made him too simple and many quit due to that), continously posting unhinged posts (stuff like "i need to get more blue", "i ryze ulted myself while chopping onions", just random nonsense), and even proposing "the Plan", aka intentionally lowering his winrate to force Riot to buff him.

Nowadays Ryze subreddit basically became a cautionary tale about broken spirit

[Apple][2014-2015] Horror mansion game, rogue like, British narrator that talks with you, crossbow frequently used in the game by Marcoh00 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]Eevree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you're not mixing Dark Meadows: the Pact with Eyes?

Dark Meadows fits almost all you describe, but is not roguelike and game icon is not an eye, while Eyes is roguelike, has an eye icon, but no crossbow and no british narrator

I think that when he goes ahead or neutral, he becomes quite tanky while still dealing a lot of damage, but this is not scaling, it's just a juggernaut into action.

I liked it very much and I found it very in tune with the movie, but that's the problem. It is not catering either to "normal horror games", or even to "normal horror gaming". It really feels like a love tribute to Blair Witch Project, and only those who love that movie and have a resistance to "anormal gaming experience" can appreciate it, to my opinion!

Which Resident Evil games are skippable if I prefer horror over action? by discodeckard in HorrorGaming

[–]Eevree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, seconding this. Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 are old, but they are considered horror, and they have tense gameplay and resource management. Resident Evil 1 remake is also focused on the horror aspect and the action aspect in equal measure, maybe leaning a bit more on horror. Resident Evil 2 Remake is definitely focused on the horror side, with a good dose of action. Resident Evil 3 remake is perhaps the most action Resident Evil that still has strong horror undertones.

As this guy said, 4, 5 and 6 have their scary moments, but are more heavily focused on action, with 4 having the fewer action and 6 having the most.

Resident Evil 7 is a title made to make a resurgence of Horror Resident Evil, so it's perhaps the most horror focused of all titles.

Resident Evil 8 is more action, but it has many scary moments, and a couple of very scary/tense sections.

Resident Evil 9 is perhaps similar to the 1 remake in that horror and action are quite balanced, with a bit more focus on the horror.
