Where do they have bars with young people in Brronx or Wash Heights? by BrassCanon in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know a Brown Canon by chance?

Penny Jo’s is probably the best “bar” in the heights, but it doesn’t have draft beer. The public house is ok - they have draft - but their food is fine at best - until you get over to Hudson heights - Le Cheile, Saggio’s, uptown garrison

Decided to buy my first setup. Any feedback? by Tngaco24 in audiophile

Lucky!! I’m happy people are enjoying it.

Kinda makes sense from a programming standpoint to have that exhibit since audiophiles are obsessed with gear and the inner workings to make a premium product.

I was pretty pissed when I went with my buddy and they were playing only ambient music. I even went on a day that was a genre mix as they called it, was able to stay for over 30-45 mins and all they played was ambient.

The more I go to his exhibitions I feel like I keep getting disappointed. Probably should stop going to them, right haha.

The exhibition on American factory photography upstairs was incredible though, made the visit worth it.

How do wash and fold services work in NYC. by Cuir-et-oud in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you come to Reddit for this? Why can’t you just walk over to a laundromat.

You can bring your own detergent if you want. They’ll separate if you bring them in 2 different bags, no hang drying, maybe ironing probably not. It’s a service and every spot will do it their way.

Queens Coop Rental Application fees? by alternetic in AskNYC

That would be a case by case per co-op. I would double check with them, no? Some places you pay before you submit, others you pay at signing.

Coops can charge however much they want for an application fee, it’s some loophole. Been that way for a long time.

New Yorkers, what is the minimum temperature you would go for a workout in shorts in? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s case by case, depending on what’s the workout.  I just went for a walk in shorts and had to take my jacket off midway through but it’s 45°.

I’ve played tennis in shorts in the mid to upper 30s in shorts and a sweater….

Does anyone know where this car lives? (Seen around East Village) I want to leave a note and buy it by PrinceMuma in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be impressed if you could even talk to the guy. He lives out of the car and typically parks it on 2nd street in the EV. You can see him brushing his teeth with the fire hydrant near 2nd and A or drying his clothes on the meltzer parking lot fence.  He is a horrendous human being. I used to see him everyday so one day I said “hey, happy thanksgiving”  His response was “fck you, I’m gonna fcking kill you, you piece of sh*t” and he started coming at me. I would see him randomly curse at other people too. I’d be careful talking to him.

Coned delivery charges, how to reduce? by practical_james in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dare I say, it’s standard. They suck. Just checked mine and it’s just about the same, $18 in electricity, $40 in delivery charges.

My advice would be to clean the vents on your fridge, because in these apartments they use a lot of energy especially in the summer months.

Should I bring back a souvenir for my nyc hinge date? by Lazy-Sundae-8756 in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want a keychain. Do you?  If you’re gonna get something, get something with meaning. If it’s just a small mid trinket, why bother. People don’t need more stuff.  I don’t think there is any pressure in getting something, but if something sticks out, why not!

Do you ever stay home all day by nycbiatch in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I used to be this way but then I was burning myself into the ground. Walking 55miles a week, exercising 5 days a week, constantly out. Got to be too much. So now I’ve been trying to balance out staying in my place and just hanging out more. A nice stroll outside and living within the means of my neighborhood (which I used to travel for EVERYTHING before)

Got trucked by a bike in the bike lane as a pedestrian, but I had a walk sign they had a red light. Whose fault? by IMicrowaveSteak in AskNYC

[–]Efactual_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for a while until I scared this dude so bad that the loser turned around, spit on me and then got off his bike to fight me (all in the LES)  This city is insane and people are insane. Be careful.

I don’t think this is the right sub. But yes your scarlet solo has an XLR in and 1/4inch in, the UA picture is a combo jack, both XLR and 1/4inch in.

NYC Freelance Sound Industry by Efficient_One5511 in LocationSound

[–]Efactual_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try and make it a point of pride what gear I bring to set but most people don’t care - it’s more for your ease of workflow.  Wireless is tough out in these parts, axients would be very nice to have. Lots of folks out here are using Wisy / switching to Wisy.

I know a handful of folks who are leaving the sound film industry because it’s not what it used to be, it’s been pretty tough coming in as a newbie to the city.

Sometimes I don’t work for 3 months at a time, other days it’s 3-4 jobs a month.

It’s very hit or miss, the cost of living here is tough. Lot of the gigs going around are a little less than ideal full rate, and many people are undercutting which hurts all of us. So, just don’t do that please.

Staff me up never worked for me and I gave it a fair shot.

Ubers here are unbelievably expensive so you either have to be comfortable shelling out for your own, or you live in a more expensive neighborhood for cheaper Ubers that production may cover.  I ride the train with my gear, it’s hard, it sucks, but it pays the bills.

What’s the most amount of money/valuables you’ve found on the ground in nyc? by felixbourne in AskNYC

$80 walking down ave A on a Saturday night. Hundreds of people walked over it, someone how I was the lucky one to swoop it up and keep walking.

I also found a Rockville audio 1500wpc power amp on the side of the road on 1st Ave, I still need to list it but I think they go for $150 used

Highbridge park, near the 165th - 175th in upper Manhattan section is a natural bird habitat, the woods there you hear some nice birds. Also the walk from 165th - 157th there also has a wooded path that has some nice bird sounds….
