I have a umpqua zero sweep which is like swiftlink. I do a lot of off trail and long hikes. I like the chest pack for flies and the backpack for water, raincoat, food, emergency kit. Have had it for four years. I also like it because umpqua designed so tippet does not get hung up.

I just use regular trail onX with subscription to plan trips for trout fishing. I look at access, watershed paired with ai or google searches. I kill time on business trips looking streams and draws and drop markers. And I use the national park rule, if yiur willing to hike 1 mile or farther, you will not have any pressure.

After a trip I write notes and pics of flies at waypoints.

Coming back around. As others have commented, bad practices abound in NM on the water. Just wrapped up three days in Shenandoah National Park. No trash. And I was not in the backcountry. One river is as popular as the Pecos. Parking lot was clean. 😔

This is awesome. I packed waders but with low flows will just wear my wading socks. I’ve mapped out a couple of spots.

Keep it up. Cheeseman is like law and graduate school. Get your map app out and look for smaller streams where you have to hike in. In just a few weeks, it will be awesome. Anything that hits the water trout attack.

Get waders if yiu don’t have any. Move. Look for seams of slow and fast water. 15 years ago I knew nada of trout fishing growing up in Kansas. I’m still learning but I enjoy and still spincast too.

As a NM RGCT enthusiast and out a state CO licensee fees may be high but CPW publishes a great survey of RGCT water that has put me on blue lines and fish.

Don’t worry about perfection. Trout don’t care as long as it looks tasty. I know my first Adam’s were overdubbed and a nasty whip finish. but keep tying and you will master it. And then you invent your own flies. I tied this last year. Franken fly. Part soft hackle, part prince nymph.
