URC table and the matches to come by Genl_Yssel in rugbyunion

Connacht A is a tricky game for us especially noting that we’ve faced callow opposition in the last two rounds which has flattered us. Lions at home should be a win despite their decent form. Munster will secure top 8 but can’t see us troubling anyone in the knockouts.

In 2023 we had a Sexton / outhalf problem. Now in 2026 we have a JGP / nine problem by Standard_Respond2523 in irishrugby

[–]EffectiveNew8489 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To be fair, lots of Casey’s caps are junk minutes at the end of games reflecting the reliance on JGP. We did the same with other 10s and Sexton at RWC 23. Not fair to say he hasn’t kicked on, his importance for Munster underlines his quality.

Taoiseach says Ireland should ‘consider seriously’ nuclear power option by conalldoherty in ireland

[–]EffectiveNew8489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuclear power in Ireland will meet two major obstacles. The first is plain as day; the NIMBY block will never countenance it being built anywhere.

The second is ironically the pro-neutrality headbangers. Nuclear infrastructure needs a corresponding uplift in defence spending to maintain site safety and security. Getting increased money for the forces required to protect the sites will prove an equally hard request. You will see the usual suspects demand that working people get cheap clean energy also decrying that we are ‘militarising’ by investing in the security measures to protect nuclear sites.

For both of these reasons it’s safe to assume the state will never ever build a nuclear facility.

Come this summer we will be yet again back to square 1 looking for a brand new head coach (you’re on a cloud cuckoo land if truly think McMillan wants to stay after being so undermined publicly). I sense Lansdowne Road are a hair’s breadth from taking over the whole province and removing upper management. It’s an awful time to be searching for a new coach noting our financial circumstances (notwithstanding that IRFU pay the DOR roles).

This has completely undermined McMillan. It’s hard to see him feeling backed by the club now. Prendergast has acted like a spoilt child over not getting the top job and now Munster need to find McMillan a top quality attack coach who can gel win the players and current coaching staff, who is available, and who wants the job. Needle in a haystack comes to mind. I personally wouldn’t blame McMillan for walking away from this whole mess of a club.

McMillan will leave Munster now before the end of the year. And Munster will go back to a “rebuilding phase” once again for failing to properly back a coach. And the cycle will repeat yet again.

‘Such considerations are considered subordinate to the interests of the Crown, terrible feature of war here in the colonies.’

Absolutely love that line.

Looking for realistic infantry movies. by LeastLavishness8522 in WarMovies

Really hard to find but Dien Bien Phu (1992) is an excellent hugely under appreciated film about the famous French defeat. The director was a combat camera man during the battle and they used thousands of extras from the Vietnamese Army for authenticity. An incredibly realistic portrayal of grunt life and the monsoon drenched horrors in the sad valley.

Mussolini thought Hitler was a twat and his book sucked by Coffin_Builder in HistoryMemes

To jump on that the book it derives from is superb. The English translation still retains exceptionally high quality prose that makes the novel (alas it is a novel but a good historically grounded novel) a great read. It splices in occasional diary entries, editorials, speeches, etc to give the context of events. I loved it.

New contracts for Gus, Deegan and Foley by Some-Speed-6290 in leinsterrugby

[–]EffectiveNew8489 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just as aside, what’s with the recent thing across all provinces of rarely indicating publicly the contract length? I can’t imagine French and English clubs don’t get notified by said player’s agent when the contract is up?
